Kikujiro

Anyone here ever see this? I have to rank it as perhaps my most favourite foreign film ever. I don't think you'll ever see a more heart wrenching, funny, sad, peculiar, outright delightful movie in your life. And if Joe Hisaishi's soundtrack doesn't get you, you're not alive. I'm sat here now listening to it and having a sob!

Takeshi has a lot of fun with the character here I think. There's some comedy noRAB to his gangster movies, but really his Kikujiro is a dozy slob going nowhere, and suddenly finRAB himself chaperone to a young boy looking for his real family. It's fundamentally a crazy road movie, but please I implore you, if you're a film fan, try to see it. It's only a fiver on DVD, and while it's not a brilliant disc, the film more than does it's job.

Any other fans?

I think I may have seen this a few years back when one of the Chanels (possibly BBC Four) had a season of films from the Far East. A very good selection of foreign films that I would not have normally watched, this one included.

That's where I caught it for the first time. It was on BBC Four late one night. I didn't see it all, but what I did see really got me, and I put the DVD on pre-order after that.

Tremendous film.
