Keira Knightley told she couldn't act

Pirates Of The Caribbean star Keira Knightley was told by a film director that she couldn't act, when auditioning for a part in The Jacket.

Although she hadn't read one line of the script, director John Maybury told Keira, "There's been a lot of hype about you, but I don't think you can act. You're completely wrong for this part - I absolutely don't want you."

However, Keira insisted on reading from the script, and Maybury soon changed his mind.

Keira told the Sunday Mirror, "He went, 'OK, here's my home phone number and here's my mobile number and I'll see you in about a month.'"

Despite Maybury's original comments, Keira won a starring role in the film, alongside Adrien Brody.

"I think it was fair enough," she added. "I haven't completely proved myself as an actress. If you do big-budget films like the King Arthurs and Pirates they want perfection. You are living a dream. The make-up is always perfect, the hair is always perfect. In a way you are a totally unreal being.

"Don't get me wrong, I love going to the cinema and watching this fairytale world. But I think to actually prove yourself as an actress, you have to touch on reality - and sometimes that's a harsh reality."

i have seen this film already and i thought she was superb in it its a very good film with a very fit actress when it comes out ere u guys got to watch it

I think shes a great actress, but she hasn't had a role to show her full potential yet.
I've seen POTC, The Hole, Bend It like Beckham and Dr Zhivago and thought she was good in them all. :)

She's not bad. But I think she can really only do one type of role. I guess we'll have to wait and see what this new films like.

Well, I do!

What's the point of going to see a film if the acting is going to be poor/unconvinving and uninspiring? Surely that's a let down?

Don't you think you deserve better?!!

Its quite refreshing to hear that a celebrity has been told honestly about their abilities. I dont think she's atrocious, but I do think that many of the young starlets get a taste for fame and start getting roles because of their name and not their abilities, and so stop training.

Hopefully she might get some more lessons
