Kid Shows on Primetime

One of the things that sucks about cartoons/live-action kid shows being on life support on network television is that we no longer get those special primetime airings. Remember those, like Batman: The Animated Series airing Sunday nights on FOX?

Yeah, I remember The Real Ghostbusters having an episode aired during Prime Time at one point.

CBS used to make a regular thing of it as well. We got a few TMNT eps aired at night back when it was popular, not to mention the the prime time premiere of the Tiny Toons pilot.

Fox also aired the season premieres of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 2 and X-Men Season 3 in prime time.

I recall that as well. It was a Sunday night.

How about Pokemon? WB aired Pokemon on primetime a few times and that was around the same time as Batman Beyond.

I recall an airing of an Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain christmas special on a Sunday night.

I also remember Goosebumps airing on a Sunday night before the Simpsons.

beypnd that, I don't remember any other cartoons airing at night.

Animaniacs never aired in primetime on the FOX network. On the other hand, according to my calculations, Tiny Toon Adventures aired at least 7 times in primetime on FOX. Also, Animaniacs did air in primetime on the WB on December 31, 1996 as part of the Kid's WB! New Year's Eve Jam.

Since you brought up a show premiering in primetime, these are the only Fox Kids shows that premiered in primetime on the FOX network: Taz-Mania, Batman the Animated Series, Life With Louie, and Goosebumps. Tiny Toon Adventures also premiered in primetime, but it was on CBS. Remember, Tiny Toon Adventures originally aired in syndication from 1990 to 1992 before airing exclusively on the Fox Kids Network from 1992 to 1995.

To the best of my knowledge, Pokemon never aired in primetime on the WB. It did, however, air in primetime on Cartoon Network starting in the fall of 2002 along with Yu-Gi-Oh!. I believe this would have been the first time that the show aired in primetime on any station in the United States since prior to this, Kids' WB! had exclusive airing rights to the series after it left syndication in early September 1999 (it aired in syndication and on Kids' WB! from February to September 1999 and only in syndication from September 1998 to February 1999).

Although no episode of Pokemon aired, there was a primetime special about Pokemon the Movie 2000: The Power of One on July 16, 2000. Additionally, there were special previews/commercials for Pokemon that aired during 7th Heaven in 1999. The premiere of M2M's 'Don't Say You Love Me' music video and the Pokemon League Games preview are two that instantly come to mind.

I don't remember Animaniacs airing any Christmas specials on primetime. I do, however, remember the Pinky and the Brain Christmas Special.

whoa. I had completely forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder. lol.

Maybe it was just my local station filling some empty space.

Feb, really? Pokemon premiered when I was in 6th grade and while I recall not having watching it when the year began I don't remember getting into half-way through the year either.

Well, I guess it would be easier to remember based upon the first episode that you saw. The first episode that premiered on Kids' WB! was 'The Problem With Paras'. Any episode prior to that premiered in syndication (with the exception of 'Beauty and the Beach') and did not air on Kids' WB! until very late July 1999. Prior to that, Kids' WB! had only premiered/repeated episodes between 'The Problem With Paras' and 'The Breeding Center Secret'.

I can't remember what was the first episode I saw. What I do remember is that he had already met Misty, but not Brock. Perhaps I did see it in syndication, but I always remember it being Kids WB. My local station that broadcast The WB Network/Kids WB also aired syndicated programs, so it's possible that they aired Pokemon and I just think of it as Kids WB. Also, that may explain why I recall seeing episodes of the show on primetime.

That's very possibly the case. When it aired in syndication, Pokemon most likely aired on one of three networks in your area: FOX, UPN, or WB itself. People who watched it on WB while it was on in syndication probably didn't even notice its transition to Kids' WB!.

It definitely wasn't FOX. My local FOX never aired cartoons. They preferred to air local news. FOX Kids aired on the independent stations. Oh, and the independent station that aired FOX Kids became the WB Network in 1995 but they still had the contract so from `95 till `97 we got FOX Kids and Kids WB on the same channel. Then FOX Kids was moved to another independent station where it stayed for 2-3 years. Finally making it's home on the UPN station where it remains to this day in the form of 4Kids.

UPN, when it was an independent station and afterwards, aired Disney Afternoon. And I think I would have remembered watching Pokemon on the same station as Disney Afternoon.

So, yea, it was most likely WB.

Pokemon aired on UPN here before Kid's WB snatched it out of syndication, but I never recalled any prime time WB airings for it.

I remember the original Pound Puppies pilot premiered in syndication during Prime time.

Then there all the Disney Afternoon Movie Pilots (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers and Talespin all had primetime premieres the night before their shows debuted)

Back when Pinky and the Brain Preimered I remember that WB aired the show on both Prime Time Wb and on Kids WB. The Prime time spot only laster for half the first season though.
