Kicker l7 sounds distorted.Why?

I just bought a 2000 watt 1000 rms kicker l7 15. I hooked it up to my car and it sounds really distorted. I think it might be the amplifier its kind off old already. What i did we put it in my brothers car and it sounded perfect real clean bass and it hit real hard. Any idea what it could be? i did the tuning before we played music. The gain was not even set halfway and all the cables were hooked up correctly.
 
well same thing here diff rent sub though i thought it was the amp but i spend like 10 min messing with it an tuning and i got just right and it sounded clean no distortion wat so ever and my amp is like 5 years old try this is what i did i set my amp at about 1/4 on the gain raised the volume like 75% and went on from there just messing with it from the head unit i lowered my sub to 0 instead of ten and i put my lows at -2 and my mids at half way (5) and my highs all they way (10) hopes this helps let me know if it works
