Kick Ass!

Got back from seeing it about half an hour ago :)

Absolutely loved it - great, great film. Loved the shoot 'em up scene in the corridor at the end - great choice of music as well.

I'd absolutely buy this on DVD .. probably even BluRay if i had a bluray player.

Wow, just...wow. The reviewer is clearly an idiot.

When does it ever actually present Hit Girl as in any way "sexualised"? The costume that she wears isn't revealing at all, and infact it's quite baggy and nothing like the skin tight constume that Halle Berry wore in Catwoman. And does the reviewer actually know that school girls do actually wear school uniforms outside of porn videos?!?!?

And as for this mornonic comment:

If it had been rated 12 then i could understand the complaint, but a 15 rating at least shows that it's not being aimed at impressionable kiRAB. The colourful language and strong violence show that, and the fact that it contains such things is evident from the trailer which clearly states that the film "Contains strong language, once very strong, & strong bloody comic violence".

Not to mention that it's not exactly condoning the behaviour when you see how badly the "superheroes" come off after their fights, all bloody and beaten.

Saw this last night.

I liked it, a good film and v v enjoyable but imo it's too overhyped. I don't think it's particularly that special.

Saying that though, Hit Girl is the best thing in it, the action set pieces were very well done and Mclovin as Red Mist is hilarious and i'd rather have watched more of him than Kick Ass.

That's what I thought, real blood, real pain and real emotional distress is being depicted except there's just one problem: an 11 year-old being repeatedly punched hard in the face by a grown man, having already been thrown about and slammed against a wall is, at best, going to end up in a coma. So the scene is both unrealistic and unnecessarily disturbing to watch.

I think I just had trouble with the mixture of real and unreal depictions of violence when added to the fact that at times we are supposed to be amused by it and at other times we are supposed to be moved by the hero or heroines plight. The first half of the movie had all more-or-less been based in reality, when it suddenly switched I found it hard to suspend my disbelief.

Also why did Hit-Girl's character have to be 11?

Kick Ass: 4.5/5

Really enjoyed it :D More than just a superhero spoof but also an exciting (and very funny) action film with some great set pieces. Hit-Girl is brilliant - definitely the best character.
She has some of the best scenes! :) You can't help but smile when she takes out a room of bad guys to the Banana Splits theme song or when the Fistful of Dollars theme plays :D
I also liked the way Big Daddy spoke like the 1960's Batman :D Red Mist is great as well and very funny.
It's actually one of Nic Cage's best performances.
However, I did notice the tone is uneven at times, switching between goofy comedy and violence which is obviously comic, to more gritty and realistic violence which can be quite jarring. The film was even moving/sad in places.
Thought:
Is the film a kind of anti-superhero film? Kick-Ass thinks all you have to do is put on a costume etc to be a hero, and gets beaten up so badly, in some scenes the film doesnt shy away from showing the consequences of violence.

Wow, based on the trailers I had dismissed this as a mediocre kiRAB movie. I'm surprised that it's getting such good reviews. I'll have to see it now.

I think they need to ditch Kick-Ass as his story is done. There is nowhere for him to go as a character really. If he gets trained up then he is no longer the nerd out of his depth.

I agree her using the C word is no big deal. It's quite common for kiRAB to use that word where I live. I think it could be more problematical in the US where they get upset being refered to as a bitch still.

If they went with my idea and wanted another one to upset the Daily Mail I would give her the line "shooting guns makes my pussy wet."
I'm not even sure the BBFC would let that one through because of her age. lol

Mark Millar (the creator) said at the Glasgow premiere on Wednesday that the sequel was being written and already been greenlighted.

McLovin's character in the next film will be called Mother****er.

I havent even seen the movie yet and the DM reviewer sounRAB like an idiot. :) But I have thought as regarRAB Hit-Girl - Schoolgirl uniforms can be used in a fetishy way. HG looks cute in her outfit in a kind of tiny martial arts way :o She'll be amazing a decade from now.
