All,

I now have two 12inch subs. One is the Kenwood 12inch (175w RMS) single voice coil 4ohm in a luvly ported box.

The other is the almighty Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 12inch (500w RMS, 1000w max) at 2 ohms per coil (wired to 4 ohms of course) in a SEALED box.

Now.... I have a problem.. I was expecting the Rockford to be 10 000 times louder.. deeper.. BUT it sounds and feels alot the same, although admitting it does have some more juice to it.
Where am I going wrong here??? They are powered (not at the same time) by my Kenwood mono block amp, dishing out 200w RMS and claims a maxx of 600w. A simple setup of mine, but got to be more i can do, like the adverts, "just wait..theres more!!"

So!..... do I need to fiddle with the amp frequency a bit more OR the headunit, in order to bring the rockford out of its shell ?
OR/and do I need to swap the two and have the Rockford in the ported box and...well....ill just chuck the Kenny away, no good to me now!! lol :beam:

I geuess I could be going wrong with the enclosures in the first place perhaps? (I have not got any specs on the enclosures by the way, only that the ported one is a tad larger, as they normally are of course compared to sealed)

When i turn the volume really high (30 atleast), the Kenwood "bottoms" out and gives a wobbly jelly sound, AND so does the almighty Rockford!! what a shame cos the Rocky has broken many a record in the past! Its NOT putting out enough to even make my ear drums hurt!

I feel i am letting my self down here (and the poor, old school Rockford), as i dont think im getting this right.

Please can you offer your expertise and comments, I would much appreciate it.
Thanking you in advance!

well, your problem may be , that the rockford is meant for a ported box, and not a sealed, a sealed box takes double the amount of power to move just as far as a ported box,, and the jelly sound your talking about is called distortion and over excursion, the radio is putting out a distorted signal when its really loud

i like kenwood, but i also like rockford,so if i was looking for a serious system, id go with rockford, but if i was more money conscious id go with the kenwood,

try swapping the rockford into a ported box, and then check the levels on it
