Ive been thinking about taking in two or three ex battery chickens at home.
I have the space for it - can provide a proper coop and get someone to build a safe run. So none of that is an issue.
I have three rescue dogs (collie cross varieties) who are quite bright and will get used to them and they will be nice to other things when told to be and I think they will accept the chickens after a short while (well that bits fingers crossed)
My youngest dog is a bit woofy - when hes playing 'woof' chase me 'woof' excitement 'woof' its a bit sporadic and not 'woof woof woof woof woof' (unless a dog is walking on the other side of the fence!) but can be a bit much sometimes and does have me waggling a finger at him which has him tryyyinnng to shut up (he is greatly improved and we are getting there so not after anti woofing advice
) ) but I am wondering how chooks (battery or otherwise) cope with this.
Do they just get used to it or do they jump out of their skin everytime your dog barks? I dont want to take chickens in and then give them a heart attack!
All three dogs also play in the garden (occasionally with a friend (supervised)) and run around at top speed playing and chasing each other (here comes the woofing again!)
All chickeny doggy people - what do you think?
