can someone give me an estimate on parts cost im going to do the job with some help along the way.do i need to have the engine honed how hard is the job any tips
the engine runs but has low compression and smokes the engine is not on anything i was thinking about using it 4 a go kart or maybe a mini bike

If you are talking about just doing a ring job then your parts will not be too expensive (IE rings and gasket set). If you are rebuilding a blown motor then you may need pistons, bore job and more. You also have to think about whether or not you want to give the valves any attention ( might just as well while you have them off).
Some models the heads and cylinders can be removed with the engine in the frame, on other models the engine must be removed from the frame.
What you are proposing is a big job and not for beginner mechanics at home. However, if you want to give it a go I commend you, it could be a real learning experience.
