check the valve adjustment. Make sure there is no air leaks. The backfire is probably dirt or worn parts in the enrichment coaster system on the carbs-these parts are on the side of the carb body and not inside the fuel chamber, but if not then make sure the seal is real good between the manifold from the carb body to the engine. No air leaks, then adjust the valves
