Hello my kawasaki kx 85 just got a full engine rebuild and was wondering what would i do to run the bike in again the mechanic didnt give much detail all he sayed was you need break the bike in because its just been rebuilt.

Just go easy for a couple of hundred miles and vary the revs. Don't hold it in one rev spot too long. What you are doing is wearing in the new piston and rings etc to the bore. After about 200 miles change the engine oil in-case it has picked up any metal from the wearing in period.

If it's a stock rebuild, and no other mods have been done, Go up at least 1 size on the main jet, and move the clip down one spot on the needle.

Run premium fuel.

Start the bike and hold it at a fast idle until you can feel some warmth on the cylinder with a bare hand.

Ride normally, just don't go crazy. Don't lug the engine, or over-rev it. go through all the gears. After 10 minutes, shut 'er down and let it cool. Ride again for 10 or 15 minutes. Shut down and cool. Ride again for 15 to 20 minutes. Allow the engine to cool completely, the re-torque the head studs.

I usually change the engine oil at this point too.

Go ahead and jet back to normal, and you're good to go.
