Kawasaki 900 LT

Do you think Suzuki will match Kaw's 900 LT or will they let Kawasaki run away with this one? I guess I'm thinking out loud but I've been looking hard at something like the 1600 Nomad. Wish the 900 was set up like that, hard bags and no spokes.

Well I think they will up the anty with the 800's first. Maybe try to squeeze some more ponies out of them. But if sales start to drop or they see the 900's getting outrageous sales numbers,, then don't be surprised if you don't see a updated frame for a M50 and a C50 sitting there with a 900 cc engine in it.

Suzuki's 805cc engine is so much better than Kawasaki's 800cc Vulcan engine, Kawasaki had to do something. They were getting trounced and the Vulcan 800 couldn't compete with the Volusia and then the C50 came out and made the situation worse for them...

Having ridden the 900 Kawi, I believe my M50 could whup it with no problem.... The 900 is OK power, but the Suzuki seems to rev better and with more seat of the pants torque.....

But a mechanical counterbalancer like the Kawasaki has sure does rob power, and Kawasaki isn't releasing any power numbers. MCN promises a full test of the bike soon.

I should add that the Kawi 900 does have a great fit and finish... Also gives a good feel on the road due to belt drive and ultra smooth tranny...

THe Shaft on the 800 Suzuki has to suck up HP vs the belt on the 900LT...ya think?

I would have bought that KAwaisaki three days ago $8500 OTD) IF it did not have spoke wheels.

And whats with all the racing comparisons? There are cruisers. Not exactly raace bikes. Who cares if they can wallop an 1800 in a curve!!!! Anything over 85MPH is wasted on a cruiser. But I know to many bigger is better. Thats why they have a 2000CC Cruiser now and will have a 25000CC.....Soon Cruisers will get the MPG of an old Caddy......BUt hey they will be fast lol

Your probably right about the shaft, been waiting for someone to do a full report on the 900 lt. MCM hinted it was going to be done in mid March but that was 2 months ago, you figure this is the buying season someone would have something on a new bike. I've sat on the bike and liked it but hate the spokes. This is offset buy the FI, rear disc and 903 cc, if the Yamaha Silverado 1100 had FI I would of bought it.

Anything over 85MPH is wasted on anything on the street, far as I know the highest legal speed limit in America is 70MPH

MY point was that going to larger displacement does not necessarily mean more power to weight ratio, more speed, more, more, more, you also get more weight, less agility (except in case of the new M109R), in most cases worse gas mileage if that is a concern, you fail to comprehend that each person looks for and finds different things in even the same bike, I want a bike that can get out of it's own way, handle well on the curves, get decent gas mileage (better than my car) keep up with my "Haaaarley" riding friends (actually they try to keep up with me) and I get to do it at Half the Price, although it does get a little tiring to make all those gas station stops, (I think they must have stock in those different oil companies) blah, blah, blah, blah :!:

Probably about the same as the mechanically driven counterbalancer the Kawasaki uses to smooth out it's engine.

I have several riding buddies who have VStar 1100s, I like my C50 better - it's bigger, roomier and more comfortable AND has the FI. The VStar has more displacment, but it's a smaller, shorter but heavier bike and it's not much of a jump in power from ther C50 either. I chose the C50 over the VSTar 1100, Vulcan 800, and Honda 750 and I'm quite pleased. Since I bought my bike, Kawasaki dumped the Vulcan 800 and brought out the much better 900 which is the C50's only real competition.

Of course, all the things that would be nice to have also would raise the price. For the price of a C50, there is no other cruiser that is anywhere near as good of a motorcycle (except for the M50, duh...)

I'm happy with my C50, and I've done a few things to make it more to my liking. Windshield, hard bags, MCE crashbar, stainless steel brakeline, and some other stuff and it's dialed in to what I want. Other bikes may go faster, but my C50 goes more than fast enough for me, and it does it getting 45 - 50 mpg which is quite a bit better than the big cc bikes and better than my car.
