Kawasaki 1100 STX, Piston Rod Issue...HELP!?

I recently purchased a used 1100 stx, the engine is torn apart and on the third cylinder. The piston rod broke loose off the crankshaft. The previous owner said the engine seized and this is how it happened. I suspect lack of lubrication because of it sitting for a while. Everything looks great on the cylinder wall, piston, crankcase etc. Can I just replace the piston rod, rings etc and be good to go or do I need to replace more to insure this doesn't happen again?
