Katy Perry to Appear on The Simpsons (in a puppet segment)

I don't know if anyone else posted this, but anyways...

I know that The Simpsons has been going extremely low in terms of quality and they're attempting to do everything to regain popularity. But THIS-

And here's an image I found of the episode courtesy of Wikisimpson.

As quote from the character of Reverend Lovejoy in the classic episode "Bart's Comet":

"IT'S ALL OVER PEOPLE, WE DON'T HAVE A PRAYER."

Er, I don't see this as a bad thing. The powers that be behind Sesame Street kind of deserve to get made fun of for axing the Elmo segment for very weak reasons. Contra the faction of complaining parents her appearance was not over the line at all, no kid would have noticed or cared. Whether the episode actually makes the right pointed criticism is another question, of course....

The puppets look pretty good. LOL almost.

And I don?t have a problem with a show switching to a different type of animation, 3d, claymation, photo-realistic paintings or even puppetry for a few seconds, just so long as they can get some funny out of it. Here?s hoping.

I find it sad that the only way for the Simpsons to still be culturally relevant in this day and age is to continually create forced "buzz" about some gimmicky opening or one-off gag every couple of months or so. When was the last time there was Simpsons-related buzz about the actual show and not some overhyped gimmick?

This is/was my exact issue with the recent Banksy intro. It wasn't about the message, or the fact the idea has been done so many times before, it's that Al Jean and co. are so desperate to get attention nowadays. The thing that really made this evident to me was the fact that a Jean interview was released that same night the intro aired, and the first news of this Katy Perry stunt emerged mere days after the Sesame Street controversy broke.

Katy Perry's the kind of person who won't appear anywhere unless she's showing some cleavage. I'm sure there would have been some deal tried to work out on "Sesame Street" for her to be more reserved, but she just wouldn't go along with it.

The Simpsons is defiantly trying to get with this generation it's a cool show regardless, but I hope this episode does really good cause I'm a fan of Katy Perry.

It was the day after

And this puppet segment has been known for months. They even showed a clip of it on Comic Con this year. Katy Perry was filmed before the whole Sesame Street controversy, so it was just a lucky break for Al Jean this all happened. Can't blame them for putting something in the press about it, who wouldn't?

You'd have to go back to a time when the show was consistently good (and not in the current state of hit-or miss ratio that equates to one hit for every five misses). This was, what, oh... say 10-12 years ago?

I... honestly don't know what to think of it. It stinks to see the quality of a once great show degrade into something so awful... but at this point, it might be the best thing they can do to say alive (either market a new, big name every week... or create controversy). Obviously, something about this game plan must be working, considering how the Simpsons have staved off inevitable cancellation for years.

The reason they haven't been cancelled is that FOX do everything they can to keep it on the air (along with their numerous reality shows that clog up the schedule) while canceling Family Guy twice, neglecting and then canceling Futurama, and not giving the amazing Firefly a chance to be a monument in the history of television and don't forget the rest of their 1 season shows that never see the light of day again:o and I'm not too keen on them moving American Dad to 7:30/6:30c this coming mid-season so bob's burgers can get the 9:30/8:30c timeslot (i think)

This meeting was going to happen even if Katie Perry's segment wasn't cut. If S.S. went ahead and aired the skit, KP on the Simpsons would've just came off as another gimmicky guest. This only became a media whore event out of pure luck, Mr. Jean.

As for why the show hasn't been cancelled despite having almost half the numbers of other TV shows that are cancelled--it's the most merchandise-based TV show ever. There could be ZERO numbers with the Neilsons, but as long as the junk sells...
