Katrina vs BP Gusher

Claiming he hates big government and is now begging the federal government to help

Fucking faggot

There is one huge difference between the two situations. In Katrina, the federal government's role was one of support to the state and local governments. It was the responder of last resort.

In this case, out at the oil well itself in the EEZ, the federal government is not only the primary responder, it's the only responder. There is no state or local authority over those waters. And even closer to shore, in territorial waters, the feds still have the leading role due to federal regulations over navigable waters. The state wanted to try to do things like build sand berms but couldn't because the feds wouldn't approve them quickly enough.

"Brownie" and now Ms. Browner. She's doing a heck of a job:

“This is obviously a difficult situation,” Ms. Browner said on “Meet the Press” on Sunday, “but it’s important for people to understand that from the beginning, the government has been in charge.”

"In charge" of cover-up and failure.

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, appearing on “Meet the Press,” again criticized the administration’s efforts, saying: “We need our federal government exactly for this kind of crisis. I think there could have been a greater sense of urgency.”

Obama HOPED his hardest that this would all just blow over without catastrophic (natural and political) impact. It did not. Now the fucking genius is trying to make it seem as if he knew what he was doing. "Drill in the deep waters, it's the right thing to do..." BAM the BOP responds as if on cue to that kind of technologically safe logic.

It's a black day for Obama and the Ocean. Katrina was clean and simple compared to this. It's not Obama's fault? Then the brutal reaction of the Iraqis to "freedom" was not something Bush should have been responsible for considering. This situation is with Obama's full support including all the negligence and inability to deal with the consequences of corruption. Makes Bush on Katrina look absolutely innocent.

BP GUSHER > Katrina

the difference is....

Katrina was a cat 5 for 2-3 days and was poised to hit NOLA. preparations should have been made for the people there.

this oil spill was a tremendous accident, caused by tremendous recklessness on the part of BP. it could have been avoided in any number of ways.

BP is not doing what it should for clean up, and yes your right they are in the best position to do so, so why the hell are they not trying to help stop the oil going into the coast line?

wat??? when did man figure out how to make hurricane's dipshit... i must of missed this bit of info

No, Katrina (like BP) was a disaster because of failed technology, not water and wind.

Or at all, because many people think that will make things worse in the long run.

No, simple human failures.

1) Money was allocated for levee upgrades, but spent on tourist-y bullshit by a corrupt City government.

2) Adequate time was available for evacuation, this was not done. Mayor Nagin was required to have evacuation plans in place; he submitted a "plan", but it was a lie, as he had not put in place the means to execute it.

3) the Feds can't move in until summoned by the State...which the Governor took a couple days (at least) doing.

4) When Federal support DID come, it was a clusterfuck.

BP? Cutting corners out of greed. The technology exists to prevent such spills, but they were unwilling to pay for it.

Human failures, all of 'em.

WTF are you talking about??

are you saying the president of the united states should have studied up on drilling and safety procedures of an offshore oil rig?? really?

I guess scores of drowned and dead floating in water gets trumped by oil on pelicans

great concern for humanity you have there

A member of Bush's cabinet was seen on live TV 3 days after the storm hit, saying "I'm not aware of anyone at the Convention Center", even though the images of thousands of people starving there had been on TV for 36 hours, and included a man pulling a sheet back on his deceased mother.

Nobody from the Obama administration has shown that level of ineptness in the spill. Nobody from any administration has shown that level of ineptness, come to think about it.

For everyone saying the federal government hasn't done enough about the spill, what would you like to see them do?

The gov't was down there since a few days after the explosion
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/29/new-oil-leak-sunken-drilling-rig/

the same bobby jindal who decried big gov't now wants daddy's help

wasn't that a republican concern? Didn't cheney and palin say it wasn't ENOUGH when obama proposed opening up more offshore dependent upon further RESEARCH..

well I would like to see our federal government make BP start paying more money out for clean up, I know the well is still gushing oil up, BP is not helping with clean up at all, pay for your mistakes BP WTF!!!

the federal govt was there 4 days after the explosion. and until the leak is capped ANY efforts to contain are going to be inadequate no matter what you do.
