Karl Pilkington-An Idiot Abroad Sky1HD 9pm

I think Karl would be absolutely nuts not to do another series. Karl is a legend and another series would be brilliant. Or something similar and equally as funny.
 
Ricky Gervais is a bit of a genius... people who get his humour think he's great, and those who don't get him invariably hate him. Whatever camp you fall in to he has an affect on you, and that's exactly what he's trying to do... He will play up to his public perception even more! How many people who say they hate him tuned in to this??? Quite a few I reckon.


Obviously Karl plays up to his persona quite a bit, however in the main, he is still that same Karl that was found by Ricky and Steve in XFM in 2001. You don't get promoted to Head of Production at Capital & XFM, command a 6 figure salary, and win a Sony award for production by being an complete idiot. I think he falls in to the category of being someone who's very good at specific things, but a bit of an idiot regarding everything else.

I thought this episode was a very promising start to the series. Some laugh out loud moments, and a couple of moments that made me feel ill (foetus!!)

Anyone who didn't find it funny in places really must be the life and soul of the party (assuming they ever get invited to a party).
 
I know he's said he won't do another series, but I'd really, really love it if Ricky & Steve sent Karl to America. Just imagine :D
 
Wow.

That's almost double the second highest rating last week (a repeat of The Simpsons - which is depressing in itself, but that's another matter).
 
I thought it was great, Karl is just the best, genuinely funny without trying to be guy I've ever heard, loved his podcasts and his books and now this, it didn't disappoint at all, better than I thought it would be as I thought Karl maybe wouldn't interact much with the people, I'm glad he did, first episode was great. yeah for those who have never heard of him, it might seem too weird and surely he isn't for real, but he can't of been putting this character on all these years he's been doing radio and stuff, he is really just a person that questions what things are all about and takes his thoughts to places most people never really think about, he is a one off and so glad he is the front runner in this show and the main star, Ricky and Stephen though are still funny and I get some people find Ricky too much these days but without him I really doubt Karl would of got the air time he did on the podcasts, he might of though, who know. I look forward to the next episode.
 
I have listened to pretty much everything they have done together and there have been many moments when I've thought that he may have some mental issues.

For example the whole "who's in charge me or me brain?" discussion was hilarious but then you start to think maybe he does hear his brain say "Karl, remember the onions".

He also said that sometimes his eyes shut if they see something bad so that he doesn't have to see it himself.

I do feel guilty for laughing at times.

Then at other times my brain says to me "you shouldn't be laughing at that" and my ears say " I agree". But then my heart says "well its just a laugh isn't it". I leave them to get on with it.
 
I watched this last last, and it was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time !
I was literally crying with laughter !
Briliant - I will be "keeping" this series !
That bit where he was getting his head massaged was superb "Have I just been mugged ??"

Had never heard of Karl Pilkington until I heard him being interviewed by Richard Bacon on 5live talking about this programme. Watched the programme because of the interview and have really enjoyed it. Richard Bacon was saying that he had known Karl for years and confirmed that he isnt putting on a fake persona, he is being genuine in his delivery. Now whether or not this is true I have no idea, but he came over to be as being quite genuine and voicing probably what a lot of us think about the world. i love his dead pan delivery and find the programme hilarious and I actually dont think he is really putting on an act. Who wouldn't be horrified at the toilets and the food! He did seem to genuinely appreciate the Taj Mahal this week, although not the rest of India, and certainly not the honeymoon suite at the hotel but no wonder!
 
Thanks for that Digital Sid. I am glad that Karl has made money out of it.
I used to be very confused about his answers to questions but it seems it really is just the way his thought process is wired.
I must say that there are moments of brilliance in An Idiot Abroad. It is far more interesting than the usual holiday programme.
