Karate Kid

I quite enjoyed this. I wasnt expecting much from it but got a lot more. I choose to look at it as a stand alone film rather than compairing it to the original, which was not that great anyway. The original was better because it was the first time for that kind of story but it was hardly a masterpiece. Jaden Smith was a cute little actor. The mother was stupid, but she was someone you could laugh at during the movie. Jackie Chan wasn't bad either.

I'm with you.....I thought it was rubbish....overlong and indulgent. Not saying that Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith were bad in their roles....they weren't, but still really dull.

Miyagi rules.....:D

BONSAI DANIEL SAN!!!

The remake is a good film - as critical consensus and box office performance would suggest.

Jackie Chan is excellent in Karate Kid. It would be easy to make lazy and dismissive comments, influenced by perceptions of his previous work. However, in reality, it is an accomplished performance - and provoked talk of him being a possible Oscar contender - albeit an 'outsider' chance!

The relationship between the two main protagonists is touching; the cinematography and score are great - and the combat scenes wipe the floor with the original.

People were cheering in the showing I saw. Not sure whethers some of the posters on this thread have actually seen the film.

I agree it was overlong and could have done with tighter editing though.

I just think it's coming to something when remakes of 20-25 year old films - when relatively, we haven't shifted culturally that much in that timeframe - are deemed commercially viable because their antecedents are now 'old' (and thus 'gay').

Really? Are you sure they're not just taking the p*ss?

I've never seen any Jackie Chan film before, I didn't even know what he looked like before I went to see this. But that scene where he's supposed to be crying was just embarrassingly awful - I assume that's why the camera did a close up of Jaden as opposed to Jackie at that point.

I watched this last night, and as far as remakes go this probably one of the best I've ever watched, I thought it was bloody brilliant!!! In my opinion it was a lot better than the original, although that doesn't take much, Jackie Chan & Jaden Smith were really good together on screen.

Jaden Smith was a class act, I think he'll be a big star one day.

It was the first time I'd ever see Jackie Chan get so emotional that he cried in a film, and he did it so well, It was believable, and not wooden like a lot of other actors/actresses performances.

To be honest, the character Dre Parker would probably have kicked Larusso's ass to the moon, then again so would half other kiRAB in the film, lol. :D

If there's a sequel I'd definetly go and watch it.

I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time! I haven't seen the original but this one was amazing and I found myself completely immersed in the film, and absolutely loved Jayden Smith.........If I had to be picky I'd say it was slightly too long but at the same time I wasn't bored!
