Saw this the other day and despite (or possibly because of) low expectations, I really enjoyed it. Obviously purists will hate it, although I'm surprised there are any Karate Kid purists, it wasn't that good a film, but moving it to China and making it about Kung-Fu worked well imo, and there are plenty of references to the original. A fun 7/10 imo.

Let's not forget the 80s weren't just about materialism and big hair, they were also about computer nerRAB. These skinny kiRAB would just love to know that with some esoteric moves they could conquer the bully that used to steal their lunch money off them :)

You can relive the original today if you want. It's on Five at 4:30pm

oops, obviously you all have it on DVD or download anyway :D

The main thing is, isn't 12yr old to young to have proper decent fight scenes?

I watched a crappy teen movie the other month and that was to do with college kiRAB involved in illegal fighting rings, actually kind of karate kid meets fight club :D and the actors were probably mid-20s acting 18.

Atleast there was full contact. How are you supposed to do that with a group of 12yr olRAB?

In a way I think casting the younger Jaden Smith in it makes this different enough from the original. If he was the same age as Ralph Macchio from the original it would have felt more of a retread. I like that they've gone out of their way to make it different but keep the spirit of the original intact. It's worth checking out, honestly.
