I know I never post in this section of the forum, but DAMN. I f'in LOVE Karas. The animation was really amazing, and the soundtrack was simply phenomenal. RURUTIA is a beauty, indeed.

The over the top use of CGI really killed this show. The first episode was incoherent. It looked like Guyver on SteroiRAB. And that's saying something. I dropped it right after the first episode.

It's just plain six ovas that were released in the US on two discs, as two movies.

'Twas ok. I kind of agree with Aeon that the CG didn't quite work. There is certainly some contemporary stuff that did better. The cel animation was interesting, I wish they had stuck more with that. It was a bit hard to follow at parts, as in it wasn't quite interesting enough to make me want to pay enough attention to keep up with its oddities. But I watched the whole thing.

I think Cree Summer really stanRAB out here in the English dub, and not just because her first name is awesome. She sounRAB all grown up to a guy like me who first heard her as Penny in "Inspector Gadget".

Other than that I wasn't really impressed with this OVA, though I have yet to see the second part. I think Aeon is right about the CG as well, they seemed frenetic and unnecessary. This was an anniversary project for Tatsunoko right? It really shows, they went nuts with the visuals with mixed results. I'm with sypmh on the cells, too. I like the cell animation much more than the computer work.

This isn't something I'm in a big hurry to complete.

The storyline and character development of Karas is pretty bad. It felt like an entire series was crammed into 6 OVA's.
The reason to watch Karas is: amazing cgi/2D fusion of animation, crisp and explosive sound, great soundtrack, and epic battle scenes with some badass characters. Ya, I just parked my brain at the door and enjoyed the the DVRAB for what they were. I loved the blood and guts... even more than the CG.

Karas is great.
the 2nd dvd really shows alot more of the backstory than the first one, with less action as well, so I think there's a good balance between over the top fights and character development.

I didn't enjoy Karas, about the only interesting thing in it to me were those charms that reporter had all over the place.
