So i'm in the market for either a Sony Ericsson k800i or a m600i. My question is will these phones work on Cingular network. They are both tri band phones without 850 frequency. So is this going to be a problem? They have 3G but i don't really understand what 3G is. Can someone help me out! Thanks.

ok, cingular uses 1900 and 850Mhz for 3G, these phones use 2100Mhz, so no way will these phones have 3G service in NA, outside NA ya, so basically if you have decent 1900mhz coverage, then id say, take the risk

It pretty much depends on your location. In Chicago, you can get by fine with 1900 only using Cingular but other places you will need the 850.

You don't need to worry about 3g because the phones are not compatible with NA 3g networks. I'd look into the K790a if I were you, that way you'll have 850

So it sounds like these aren't the phones to get. The only quad band phone SE is the w810, which is a nice phone. Any suggestions for good phones around $300? All I want is to make calls, text, use a camera and play music. Most importantly, i don't want a phone that is too bulky. The Samsung D900 seems nice but I'm more than happy to listen to some suggestions!

As braindead suggested, if you want an SE with GSM 850 check out the K790a, its exactly like the K800 but with the GSM 850 band. Otherwise, for those things I would suggest the W810i, its right in your price point and does well with all the things you mentioned.
