K-On!

If there is already a thread for this, I couldn't find it. By all means, lock this if it is a duplicate.

That being said, let me rant for a minute here. I decided to watch K-On with a friend of mine. She loves it, so I figured, why not give it a try? Well, I did, so I can say this. It has to be the worst anime I have ever seen in my life.

It's almost completely plotless and random, besides having the vaguest ties to past events of the show. You could watch it in any order you want, and miss nothing. Randomness is cool if you do it right, but this is certainly not it. FLCL; random, cool, and it has a plot. It's a nonsensical one, but it's a plot, nontheless.

As if the lack of actual story wasn't bad enough, the characters have about as much personality as cardboard cutouts. I can see that the creator tried to give them individual personailties, but that attempt obviously failed miserably.

Seriously, nothing happens in this show! I'm curious. Why do people watch this show? What is the appeal? Those of you who do enjoy it, please enlighten me, because I don't get it. I had to force myself to finish the first season.

What do you all think of it? Share opinions and comments here.

Crap. Please move this to the Impulse.

How can you not like this show? It's a great slice of life anime, that you can sit down, enjoy, and have a laugh. I've got plenty of other anime if I want to follow a plot. Yui FTW!

I agree that K-On! and the second one doesn't have an overall plot, but it's more of a slice of life kind of anime. Personally, the characters is what makes it wonderful to watch for me. I think it's just meant to be a "cute" anime. I really like it along with the second season so far.

I guess you could consider K-On! just like the anime Today in Class 5-2. There are only five episodes and they don't have really any story. It's just cute

Slice of Life and Music!
-decipher it on your own

if that doesn't enlightened you then!

I don't have anything to say then!

its like the definition for slice of life. cut out sequences or events in a characters life. the only real story is that the show is continuous and moves forward. meaning only that it doesnt skip around a timeline. but little aspects really rely on this other than the quite rare performance or (in the beginning) yui learning to get better at the guitar.

if you need a good strong plot in your anime, you need to fish elsewhere, this isnt the droid you were looking for

I couldn't really get into K-On! either; if I was going to watch a slice of life anime, I would go straight for something like Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh.

for me it's a very cute and an entertaining one..i myself finished the first series 6 times and currently watching the 2nd season of it.....maybe it's not just your taste....

damn 6, i watched the season twice with a few of teh eps with songs and big progression 3-4 times. i loved it, but lately the whole slice of life thing has really grown on me, as i used to very much dis-like it.

i also think that kyoto is just at the top of teh game when it comes to animation.

*this is in the wrong section too, theres one in the impulse, this section is for action/adventure/fantasy

I like what I've seen so far of it a lot, but then again, I love slice of life anime. If you're looking for a coherent plot that goes somewhere, then slice of life anime isn't really the genre for you overall. Lucky Star is like this, Azumanga Daioh is like this (though it does have some plot,) it's just what slice of life anime is. That being said, it's a major hit in Japan (nearly eclipsed sales of the newest Evangelion film on its initial release) for a reason; it's obvious that when it comes to Japan, slice of life anime is it recently.

One of my favorites, something you can sit down and enjoy. Rather than some which take forever to get through. This one works at the same pace, giving you laughs derp.
