"K-ON!" Talkback (Spoilers)

She became popular because she's Mio. That's all she neeRAB. Yui's dorky-cuteness makes her a winner too, though.

In this latest episode, it is revealed that Mugi is indeed awesome as well, and Ritsu is just mean. =[

Episode 5 was a blast though. It'll be an enjoyable watch for people I'm sure.

And the Yoko comparisons have been done with many female characters since Yoko came into existence. I was surprised with Mio's breast size though. That came outta no where.

And...just saw it, and you know what that means.

Yep, the heatwave that will never be referenced again in the episode.

"This is the only image I had of what a band looks like..."
Thing is, it could've been a lot worse. Could've been a death metal band.

Yeah, Mio, unlike the almost millions of your fans, I'm not being all "you're hot when your scared", sorry.

But...this doesn't mean I don't like you, though, just that your fans are kinda overreacting. Just being honest.

Uh...pull her finger?

You could've been distracted by the desk first.

The techer's name is Sawako, by the way. Cool name.

The same joke from episode 3 returns.

"By the way, where's Mio?"
"Oh, she's still trerabling over there."
How many hours was she in there?!

Yes, they like to make epic entrances. Wait, didn't I do that joke before? Didn't they do that before?

Ritsu found out that the animation improved.

This is gonna end up being Ritsu's fault, isn't it?

She says "Well" six times again. Isn't that too much?

Sorry, Yui wasn't paying any attention for some unexplicable reason.

We're not stalking you, we're following and pleading you.

Run, Sawako, run!

"It's a bloody history that no one should know about."
She was in GWAR?

Nope, no glass windows for her to break through.

They're there already? Were they bump-drafting her? Too bad no one will get that reference.

Oh come on, Sawako, you should't feel that erabarrassed. In one field trip that I had, I was singing a Dillinger Escape Plan song that had screaming all the time and people looked at me weirdly and I wasn't erabarrassed, just people telling me I was acting like a freaking psycho. TRUE STORY.

Speaking of psycho, oh crap...

There's the teeth picking some people were probably waiting for.

"She went into flasrabroadack mode!"
GAH! I didn't see that coming!

"I like girls who are more wild."
Interesting line, because...(points to my avatar) I tend to like those kind of girls, too.

That's overkill.

She's still dressed that way even while not performing?

No crap.

Mio doesn't look impressed...care to tell why?

You're kinda late on the gag, Mugi.

It looks like Sawako wants to murder some tea. I can't believe I said that.

I don't fee like saying a cake-related joke, sorry if you were expecting one.

Mio with headphones just looks plain cool.

I knew it was gonna go off-topic sooner or later.

The lyrics are:

Everytime I look at you
My heart starts thumping
The swaying memories are like marshmallows
Light and fluffy

Uh...I don't know what to say?

I'll never get Mugi, believe it or not.

Also, what is that arrow supposed to mean?

It'll improve her image? I hope she doesn't get selfish or something...

She can play, but can she sing?

They won't show her playing again? KyoAni, why are you so secretive?

I think Mugi might be--, no, let's not get carried away yet.

Are you like, really like-liking her? You know you like-like her, because you already liked her!

Yeah, right, Mugi, whatever you say.

"I don't think there's anything wrong if both sides express interest..."
I don't...get it...what...?

What happened to her voice?!

They rule at posing, they really do.

What did you say, Ritsu? I was too busy staring the both of them.

Hey look, the cartoon version of the fainting gag, not the anime version.

Also, they suddenly have 3 days, thanks for reminding us this late.

On the preview:

It's all about...practice.

GAH! Nurse Mugi!

Phew, thought they were gonna show a bit too much.

(points at my avatar) Ditto, the wilder the better

Anyway, this episode was hysterical, oddly enough I photographically remerabered all of the episodes from reading the manga, and I like how KyoAni has handled the series so far, and also Sawako-sensei is hilarious especially when she switches personas (reminRAB me of Lunch from DRAGONBALL), also I liked the fact that Ritsu (my personal favourite) broke the fourth wall. and I'm with Mesousa, I don't like Mio either, she reminRAB me to much of Kagami

And I also can't help but point out that they used an old school late 80's - early 90's sound effect when Mio fainted, and I'm with Mesousa, I don't like Mio either, she reminRAB me too much of Kagami from Lucky★Star (who I really really dislike)

I never thought of Konata being wild, really, she barely does crazy stuff.

Actually, I'm not surprised about this.

Recent animated shows has had characters calling out flasrabroadacks or know a flasrabroadack is gonna happen.

Whoa, maybe you should watch yourself, you just repeated what you said about Mio and Kagami, was there an error?

Anyways, I actually like Mio, I just don't like her fans, because they overreact about everything she does.

Strange thing is, Kagami was my favourite Lucky Star character.

Well, episode 6 is out and man, did the girls put on a good show. The outfits were adorable, the song sounded great (loved the little music video that went with it), and, at least temporarily, Mio got rid of some of her shyness. Too bad she had to trip...

Pant...su...

I loved that episode, and I loved their performance. It was a cute song. I can't wait until that one comes out.

I'm loving this series though. It's just.. awesome.

I do have to commend the K-On staff for NOT doing the typical fanservice shot.
Also, I love how Yui's voice remained hoarse throught he entire thing, even during the singing. Nice bit of detail, that.

6 was decent--finally, a performance! It wins some extra points for depicting a music video during the song, as opposed to the expected route of just showing the girls on stage. My favorite moment: the peace sign that was made when the masses were clearly expecting a certain rude gesture instead.

On the downside, I think this show is pretty mean to Mio. Can't she get a break at least once? I would hope that she'll eventually grow to have much more confidence, as opposed to being used for humor until the very end.

...Well, I'm finally going to comment on episode 6. Sorry that I got hung over. I'll do 7 in a future time.

Let's see how they got there in... VH1's Behind The Music. Wait, too soon? D'oh!

Is it really necessary to carry your bass that way, Mio?

Shades of Hidamari Sketch...

Yui does a great grandmother impression.

Oh wait...her voice is still cracked. Unexpected continuity!

It almost looks like her wig is falling, isn't it?

The power has gone out that many times?

Uh, Ritsu, you got a poison mushroom on your head, should I get it off?

Of course Mio's gonna go in.

Twirling. Yeah.

Her wig wants to fall!

"Sumo isn't a national sport, it's a martial art."
So I'm guesing NASCAR isn't alone.

Yui has no problem with a guitar on her back, strangely.

Practicing what?

They don't look like rock star clothes...

Sagawa's wilder clothes return!

They're totally not rock star clothes!

"Nothing happened...nothing happened."
That's what I was about to say, thank you.

Whatever Mio's looking at looks...scary?

"I'm the vocalist...in front of so many people...(drops amplifier) Ouch."
That didn't look like it hurt...much.

Does Mugi's mouth have to be open here? She might accidently swallow a fly.

All the production placement is done!

The producers are reminding us that Yui is the real main character here, because she's thinking. Thanks for this pointless information, KyoAni.

Uh huh, I already know that.

"So you didn't grown up with her."
Okay, this doesn't help.

Mio is any Lucky Star character. (The joke here is that the main 4 characters of Lucky Star are all left-handed)

"It so obvious that she's nervous."
Where's Captain Obvious when you need him?

Now...it's the other way around.

An All Your Base reference? Where'd that come from?

This show makes air guitar cool again.

Wow, I don't know, but this looks so cheap, it's funny!

I get it already, KyoAni, just stop making Yui say such obvious things and make sudden close-ups of her that make her face look like a Studio Ghibli character. Why does this annoy me? I dont know!

Couldn't the erabarrassments be saved for earlier?

"Good luck, Yui."
And not everyone else? (sigh)

She was practicing singing. Whoops, my bad.

This party's gettin' crazy. Let's rock!

Suddenly, we're in video mode!

ReminRAB me of Cage The Elephant's "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" music video...

...Now it's like Audioslave's "Show Me How To Live" music video.

Good timing on the wanted, really.

Geting chased by cops isn't exactly light and fluffy.

There's like...9 second of nothingness there. Whoops.

I was clapping, too.

And there's the "OMG, is she all right?" moment.

If you have a 16:9 flat-screen TV, you're in for the real treat.

"Looks like Mio has her own fanclub now."
O RLY?

"No one will marry me now."
Actualy, it's the other way around, so, uh... stop sulking.

Now I'll comment on episode 7. (slow clapping)

At least it's not July. God, I hate that saying.

Why do I want to shout that the designs here look like from the first segment of Digimon:The Movie?

"I forgot to do my homework, and I didn't eat all my lunch."
And that worries you about Santa not coming because...?

We are on BONES' level of fluid animation here.

"Onee-chan got in a lot of trouble that day."
By just ripping out a pillow? Is there's a pillow law now?

You know what makes this part between Ui and Yui better? There's nobody else around.

That looks like the AC/DC logo. I know it because I'm a rocker, obviously.

You know...Mugi has pretty big eyebrows.

Pan = bread in Japanese (and Spanish, heh heh).

"It's a good thing her sister is reliable."
Yeah, throw a unnecessary comment, good job.

"Bettako-san."
What the hell does that mean?

Shopping, but not the annoying teen kind.

Look at her face when she searches the toys again! It's priceless! I can't help it!

(sigh) Okay, you two are slowly getting old.

I'll just pretend that's the My Bloody Valentine re-make cover. Oh, and apperantly, everything's on Blu-Ray these days.

That's just a random Russian girl--no wait, it's Mugi.

Why is she blushing? It's not like it's erabarassing winning something.

I wanna hi-5 her! I'm not a fan of going very far away places as well.

One-shot performance? Eh?

Looks like "London Bridge" to me.

And...Ui does a facial expression. Good job.

She is crawlin'!

I get it already. One sister is playful and one is responsable, can we please move on?

"I take back what I said!"
GAH! Didn't see that coming!

Oh no, is someone gonna end up drunk? Actually, that's good, as long as there's no teacher around.

"Geez, you suond like an old geezer."
Yeah, I actually saw that coming, thank you.

It's like Haruka Nogizaka now, trying to fit the entire cast in. (sigh) I bet only -1 people will get that reference.

Did they forget about her story from episode 4? I smell a little inconsistency from the writers.

Mugi somehow enjoys all this... why does that worry me?

Yui has no sense of being erabarassed? I wonder what happens if someone suddenly takes off her clothes?

Why always Mio? Seriously, Sawako, just Yui's clothes off if you want erabarrassment. And no, I just want that to happen for comedy, not for perverted reasons.

I just noticed I called Sawako "Sagawa" last time. Crap.

How does Mugi do it? She's smiling yet doesn't want to see the bad stuff!

"No one will marry me now."
Well, that's getting annoying.

So...do you have a boyfriend or not? Just tell me.

It looks...forced, I have to admit.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! STOP IT, MIO, STOP SAYING THAT STUPID LINE!

Maybe Mugi really is a le...gally happy person.

I would love to see Sawako's real reaction.

Oh, Nodoka just made a facial expression, too. I actually was not expecting that, nice.

Well, that didn't work.

Marracas? The hell?!

Nodako made a whoopsie and didn't even bother? Good, good...

Oh yeah, Sawako still likes death metal.

No, let's make the atmosphere more stupid!

Ui's not good in voice differentiation, isn't she?

Oh yeah, this show makes air drumming cool, too.

More randomness...of the negative kind.

She should've look funnier that that to be an ocean sunfish.

Okay, that's 3 people impressed (Yui, Ui and Mugi) 2 crying (Mio and Ritsu, yes, Ritsu, believe it or not) and 1 going "WTF" (Nodoka), okay.

I'll be quiet for a while. This part is sweet.

Well, I couldn't even stay quiet for a minute, Ui just played the comic relief this time.

I like Yui staring.

Did I just push the fast-forward button?

"That was how I spent my New Year's."
Hey, like me!

Did Yui just call Ritsu a loser through both her hanRAB?

And once again, just like me, Yui doesn't gain weight regardless of what we eat. Too much in common.

Of course, Mio's gonna the jealous one, and...

Mugi as well?! WHAT THE HELL?!

In Anime, it doesn't matter if you gained wight, you'll still look the same.

...That's racist, isn't it?

Wow, Sawako is a liar, why am I not surprised?

"We should all pray for out light music club."
The characters are switching all over the place! Ritsu's being the responsable one here, now.

"I pray that Mugi-chan will bring more cake--(gets hit, is now seen with a big owie on her head) I pray that I'll get better at the guitar."
That worked!

"Yui, did you really not gain any weight?!"
Wait, I didn't remeraber that watching it the first time...or do I?

Watched ep 8 and wow they really blew thru their first year of HS pretty fast. First ep was them getting the club together in the spring not too long after they started their freshman year and boom ep #8 and we're into year 2 and going for new club merabers.

Certainly moves thru school years faster then say School Rurable lol

Although makes me wonder if the whole K-ON! thing is going to be done in a 12/13 ep series and that's that?

Fun stuff with episode 8. We got another Live which was fun, and I'm loving the new meraber already. She seems quiet. Don't worry -- the K-ON! gang will break you in.

C/P my post from another forum (Thu Apr 23, 2009)
So this was based on the first few episodes.

Moe is good in small doses.
But having every anime from the start of this year to the end... is not. It basically makes things rather shallow. Then again, anime is created for Japan for a Japanese audience. The people buying the anime are otaku who keep the industry going, so of course more series will be created with that type of audience in mind.

If you guys check out the K-ON! manga, you will see that there is hardly (if none) moe-moments. In fact I think you would be shocked just how Yui acts compared to her anime counterpart.

More C/P (around the same date)

I am fond of Ritsu. From the start of the Anime and Manga.
Well, I am definitely going to keep up with it.

I seriously dislike the art direction They look deformed, the only thing that is detailed, is their faces. And they look alike.
Besides that, it is a cute style to try and imitate.

I read a bit of the manga, I felt it wasn't very "moe" feeling at all. And it is quite funny.
The anime however that is Kyoani's direction. Especially making Mugi an airhead and Yui a spaz. That part is quite disappointing to me.

So far I like how laid back the show is.
I only heard half of the OP and ED. So I am fond of the attitude of the ED, and the energy of the OP. But Yui's vocals leaves much to be desired.

==
My Praise about it:
Amusing and interesting characters. And the story captured my attention, reminRAB me of old movies that had a group of characters get together and try to be a big musical hit.
If you are not a big follower on Character Arch Types, then these characters will seem like a nice spin on them. Since they don't seem to fit that typical role. Manga view - the main 4.

Ritsu - by appearance and the fact that she can be loud, you would expect her to be the energetic girl who doesn't take to her lessons and bullies people, but you see a good score on her tests and she can make jokes that aren't very serious. She also very determined.

Yui - expected to be the cute girl that just floats around in the background and shrinks in on herself. But she actually stanRAB out quite a bit, and when she saw something she was interested in- she went for it. She doesn't seem to give up instantly.

Mio - by appearance alone, you would expect some type of tsundere girl. Turns out she is quite shy but does speak up when something neeRAB to be said. And she took charge in teaching Yui about notes. She isn't very pushy either.

Tsumugi - labeled as a Hime instantly. She is a nice girl who seems willing to help anyone in need. She certainly doesn't seem to act like someone who greedy when it comes to money, but certainly she knows she has it. She isn't pushy about her Social status at all. She doesn't speak softly, she just goes into a situation naturally.

My Rant about it:
My issue is with KyoAni adjusting the characters from their manga personalities. Specifically Yui and Mugi. While Ritsu and Mio seem alright. I hope KyoAni just doesn't take one of their quirks and focus on it so much, that the original character is lost.
Anime view.

Yui (manga) - is dense, but certainly not stupid. She can and does do things on her own. She isn't THAT shy and she does seem to want to work toward goals.
She acts Silly.

Yui (anime) - durab as a sack of rocks, squealing and tripping over her own two feet. I am not fond of her voice either... everyone else seems to have a great tone, but Yui (slap on a high voice and call her moe).

Mugi (manga) - stood out as a mature helpful girl. Has interest in new things and enjoys a good laugh. Obviously willing to stand up for her new frienRAB.
She seems like a Hime-type with heart.

Mugi (anime) - air-headed and seems kind of underhanded. She is hardly noticeable or stanRAB out. What the heck was with that scene with the french fries?! Your telling me she can pack a lunch of sweets and cook tea, but can't pick up a fry and eat it?
I don't want her to fade off into the background because KyoAni can't figure out what to do with her.

KyoAni doesn't seem to be using a lot of the 4koma jokes... and when they do use them, it is a blip on the radar and then it's over. They seem to shove "Moe Moments" into the show rather than humor.

I am all for cute characters with cute faults, but not to a point that it takes over the purpose of the anime.

A new note.
-Interesting...the animation actually looks solid for this episode [8]

-Why is Mio turning into such a coward?

-Interesting point, I wasn't expecting Azusa to be shown.
Woof glad her voice isn't high pitched.

-Maybe it's me...but Ritsu sounRAB different in this episode.

-And what is with Kyo-Ani not showing the girls playing their instruments? It's like some big secret.
