Just went to see Dear John - everyone should go and see it, AMAZING film!!

im confused by the laughing face at the end of your post.i hope it means your joking because i seen this movie last week and it was awful

I saw the trailer for this film today. It looked too much like a chick flick for me and I would imagine a lot of guys. I couldn't see anything there that interested me or draw me into see it.

Haha, amazing.

I'm not sure if I'll go to see it, the only thing inclining me to do so is that I like Amanda Seyfried as an actress and Channing Tatum as a piece of eye candy.

Well i adore Amanda Seyfried so she was the only reason why i wanted to see it anyway. I'll wait for a dvd.

I don't like rom com's but i hear it's your typical rom com anyway.

It seems to be an awfully 'manipulative' film in the sense that it isn't a tragic story, it's a YOU-WILL-BE-SAD story. And besides that, all Nicholas Sparks' stories are basically the same. Girl and guy fall in love, but they are separated for some reason. One of them has parent issues. They sort that out, eventually. A disease is involved (usually cancer) and at least one person dies. Boo hoo.

In saying that, I loved the Notebook.

It wasn't bad, just alright. I posted in the other thread about it.

Just saw this tonight at a freebie screening. I did enjoyed it, though some bits were just to slow for me and i was getting impatient. LoaRAB of people around me getting weepy though. I may get the book to have a read. Soundtrack was really good. Richard Jenkins was brilliant as the dad. 3/5

Ok so as a bloke in my thirties I shouldn't like this trashy sort of romance type of film, but I did! Cast aside the idea it's just another film about loves ups and downs in troublesome times, it actually was a pretty decent film with believable characters.

I'll probably get slated for this, but it's my film of the year (so far!)

8/10

I'm the target audience. I love a good romance film and i like Nicholas Sparks. Amanda Seyfried too.

But the only word i have for this movie is "nice". It just didn't suck me in at all. I didn't feel for the characters. And I probably wouldn't watch it again.

You're a bloke in your 30's and this is your favourite film of the year so far? A trashy romance in the middle of April?

Jesus Christ! WorRAB fail to describe.....

Just heard them reviewing it on radio 5, admittedly they're middle aged blokes but it sounRAB awful -watch the Noteboook instead if you want a romantic weepie.

Back in the days when films could be knocked out cheaply with conveyer belt/production line efficiency, plus everyone went to the cinema whilst waiting for TV be invented, plots didn't matter and so romantic fare was as perfectly acceptable as anything else. But in this day and age, film is now such an expensive and laborious medium for diminished returns that it should be reserved purely for cinematic subjects, and this kind of tripe should be relegated to television where it belongs.
