I just started accutane and am on 40mg a day for the first 10 days then up to 80 mg after that. I am on my 7th day and my face is completly red and feels very sunburned. which it's not from the sun. Not to mention I feel very flushed and itchy only on my face. Skin just feels hot to the touch. I have very sensitive skin to begin with and a very light complexion. Is this normal??? Im really worried and hopping this is just a stage that it will get better. I don't want to have a red face the whole 6 months. Any help would be appreciated.

Sad to say, this is normal with Accutane! My son was a dry as a bone while on it. He learned to corabat the dryness with an oil free moisturizer and lip balm. His lips would get so dry they cracked and would bleed. I think we even ended up with some sort of prescription lip remedy. It was that bad! After using the balm and lotion, he got a good handle on the dryness. It was all well worth it bacause after just a few months of accutane, his skin cleared up beautifully. It's been about 2 years now since he quit the meRAB. He just gets the occasional pimple now. I still think its the best severe acne med out there. Hang in there!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will just have to wait it out. I just want to make sure I don't cause any ireversible damage to my skin beings how sensitive it is to begin with and I can't seem to find anywhere online that it accually says your face might turn beat red for awhile at first. I'm taking this for acne on my back and never really had much of a problem with my face other than it being really oily. I can really tell a differance though when I come indoors from the cold to a warm temperature that that really triggers the flushing feeling in the face.

If it's a big problem for you and is causing reasonable discomfort, you might want to try talking to your Dr. about this, just to be sure you're not having anything too serious going on. :)

I was on it for 8 months, clear as water now. It's rough. See it through though.

It could be because of the dryness that your face isn't used to, and the effect the vitamin A is having on your skin right now.

I think you may be having a bad reaction. your skin shouldn't be hot to the touch. call your doctor to let him know what's going on.
