My car was stolen two days ago in & was recovered a few hours later in another city 2 hours away. It was towed to an impound because it was illegally parked.
After filing the police reports and insurance claims, my insurance company (Progressive) towed the car to their holding facility & have it there for now.
We were there today to speak with the adjuster and the car only has minor damage but has a coolant leak under the car which we never had before.
The adjuster tried to have me commit to a $435 payment without sending it to the mechanic first, and I declined. I don't want to commit to anything without having an unbiased assessment of damage, the adjuster was obviously trying to ignore the various problems and low ball me. It is in Oregon and I know we can take it to any mechanic legally, but they tried very hard to make me go to one of their shops.
I just want it fixed well and without anything out of my pocket aside from my deductible ($100). How should I deal with this?
