Ok, so I just moved to a new house and it is my second day here and one of my 2 angel fish seems to be sick. This is the second time i have moved this tank and the last time i did it not one fish was affected by the move, but this time it seems that one of my angels is not doing so well. She (not sure if it is a she or he really, but i call it a she cause she looks like a she :-)
So i took out around 40 gallons of the 55 and kept about 15 or so, i took out all the rock, since it has been over a year since i have had this tank up, so i figured it was about time to do a real good cleaning. I did not change any of the filters or anything. The last time i fed my fish was on a Wednesday, and today is Friday. But on Thursday i noticed my one Angel fish was not eating, actually she will eat and then spit it out and then eat it again then spit it out. So i began to look more closely at her and i noticed that it looks as though her insides are coming out of her anus. It does not look like poop it is much lighter then poop, it is light brown or a tan color. It is much larger then her poop would be, it like i said looks like part of her intestine or something.
I am extremely concerned about her, and have no idea what is going on, she is a very active fish that always eats well, and is one of the most beautyful fish i have ever had. I talk to a few fish stores in my town and they seem to not know what it is either, other than stress or constipation is all i have gotten. I have one other Angel fish and he was back to his bossy controlig self that very day i moved, as well as all my other fish in that tank, it is just this one fish. Any Ideas?? Please help. Only advise i got was to put algy in her diet.....but how can i do that when she is not eating yet? Oh and to add pimafix and melafix to the tank.

did you let the tank cycle after moving and replacing? more then likely that's the cause check your tank for ammonia and nitrites if you have a test kit or are willing to go to a pet store to get it tested. If harmful things as the ammonia or nitrites do exist I would recommend trying to find a cycled tank to re-home them for about 2 weeks.

The only time I have seen the insides of a fish come out their vent is when the fish was infected with an intestinal parasite, and the intestines were white. However, this was not an angel fish. I doubt that would happen from moving.. If you have not added any fish to that tank in over 6 months, have you added any fish to any other tanks and then used a net in both? The reason I say 6 months is some worms have a very long life cycle and can live in a fish for 6 months.

If you want to get her to poop but she's not eating, add some epsom salts. It's a laxative.

Melafix and pimafix won't do anything for her. I would try the epsom salt, and see if it clears up.

However, in my experience, a fish will never recover from their insides herniating out of their vent.. even in people it requires surgery to fix, and I lack the expertise to even begin to advise on something like that.
