Just hooked up a PS3 and I'm having some problems

I hooked up a friends PS3 to my TV via the AV cords to my 32in LCD Westinghouse (LTV 32 W6 Hd) and when I turned on the system the TV detected it and went to the right 'channel' but it was slighlty distorted and there was a buzz coming from the speakers. I checked all the connections and made sure the was no interference and it was all hooked up the way it should have been. My question is is this just because I didn't have it hooked up through component/HDMI cables or did I get a lemon. Also, anyone know if and when I do get the component or HDMI cable, will this particular TV scale it to something other than 480? Cause if that's the case I'm selling mine and just holding on to my 360 til I can get a better 1080p tv. Thanks

what resolutions does your tv support? mine supports 480p, 720p and 1080i. i am using a HDMI cable and the ps3 optimized it to 720p and runs 1080i when watching blu ray movies. try getting a HDMI cable and see if that helps your problem with the buzzing sound and distorted screen. if it doesn't help, call sony. but i'm willing to bet it's the cables.

I guess I will need the HD cords to use the PS3. My TV does support all the HD settings (480i/p, 720p and 1080i) just not with AV cords. That's only 480i. Would that explain the distortion and noise though? I don't think it would cause problems just cause it was hooked up through the AV cable... I will do that though Konducta, thanks. I won't be opening my PS3 until Dec. 15 anyway cause I have to see if I can afford it (student loans) and if it was just this one, I don't really care...Not my PS3.

That's my TV if that helps anyone.

i got a HDMI cable for best buy for like 50 dollars or so. if it is a problem with your PS3 sony is very good about getting you another one. i sent mine out monday for an exchange and i already have a new one waiting at UPS. didn't know they attempted to deilver today until just now but i would imagine it's something wrong with the AV cable. 480i should still be fine. AV cables are probably just garbage. i had a problem with my wireless controllers and sony was very very good about getting me an exchange. they sent the boxes to send my stuff in overnight with postage paid. they then sent me a new ps3 overnight as soon as they got mine. no worries if it's something wrong with the system.

HDMI is audio and visual in one. You do have to set it up first with teh composite and then switch it in the menu...after that you leave the HDMI in, leave teh TV on HDMI, and pull the others.
