Hello,

I've just got Bell ExpressVu installed and I must admit that I am very disappointed. The image quality as of now is alot worst then it was with Videotron Cable.

Also, on the 6241, then tech used the coax cable that came in the expressvu box that says ''Use this cable to connect the receiver to the tv only'' and used it to plug to the switch that goes to the dish..

But, I get the same bad quality on both receiver.

Maybe it's cause I usually never watch TV at this time of the day and everything suck...

I guess i'll see tonight, but soo far, quality is worst then cable. It looks like the signal is compress to hell.

Any idea ?

Thanks!

I have Bell and I don't have a grainy picture using HDMI. How big are your TV's and how far back are you sitting?

How is the reciever connected to the TV? HDMI? Component? (I'm assuming you have a HDTV).

Also, go in to the system setup and make sure your HDTV setting are correct. I know on the 9200 the default was 480i, and required me to set it to 1080i or 720p.

Do you think he moved his couch 6 feet closer to the TV so he could complain about a grainy picture.?

Hi,

I've verified that and it is currently do 1080i. Should I change it to 720p ?

I just find that most HD Channels are ALOT grainier then it was with Videotron.. On Videotron, all channels were crispy clear.

I guess I will have to wait for primetime shows and see if it's better then..

All is plugged via HDMI same as it was with Videotron.

If anyone has an idea, please share it with me :)

Thanks!

I am not calling you dumb by any means. I was just saying that a lot of questions asked in these forums are basic and the answers are usually in the manual.

As for your picutre quality issue, something is not right. I have 3 HDTV's and have no issue with the picture quality. My parents and brother also have HDTV's with no issues. All the TV's are different (DLP, LCD, and Plasma), but they are all Samsung.

There are some channels that just have bad quality. Any of the premium HDTV channels (the ones you have to pay extra for) should be very good quality. The networks are hit and miss for quality. This will hopefully improve once BTV introduces 8PSK modulation soon.

Are you on the HD channels in the 800's
Bottom left format button on remote , change format to normal from zoom.

what ???, your kidding right ?, if your getting worst picture quality,
from BEV then Videotron, then there's something wrong with your installation.

I had Videotron, on the majority, of channels, i used to get
compression artifacts, at least 10 - 15 times a month, to the point it looked like a checker board.

Had a tech come over, at least 6 times in 3 months
He checked everything changed coax cable outside from pole
to my house, even changed coax inside.
Space channel sucked to the point it was unwatchable on Videotron, just about the only channel that looked really good was HDTVA, that happens to be the property of Videotron.

For your information, Videotron is already out of bandwith, and they
upgraded there network barely a few years ago.

Also you can expect things to get much worst with them, not better.

With Expressvu, thins will get better and better, with more powerfull
Sat's in the coming 2 years.

With my BEV 9242, and my Samsung lnt4661, even sd channels look really good.

Has for HD channels, they all look great, not Blu-Ray quality, of course
but no compression artifact, not even once in 12 months.

I suggest you check your signal strenght, and maybe fine tune your
HDTV, if it's still unsatisfactory, call BELL Expressvu, and have a tech
bring over a new receiver.

Perhaps a bad cable connection ? , most likely you just need to fine tune your HDTV.

If you are correct that the installer used the RG59 cable to connect from the receiver to the Power Inserter, you MUST call Bell and have them send the Tech back, that is NOT acceptable at all.

Do not forget that all programming on an HD channel is NOT HD......

I would be surprised, CBC has been good about distinguishing widescreen from HD in the guide. But after last years only two HD truck fiasco who knows.

Hello everyone,

Im back with an update.... I wasn't here tonight, but i've recorded some HD Show.. (WWE Smackdown, CSI Miami, some french show...) and I must admit that these look better then what I saw today.

I guess that most show during the day suck in HD... But prime time, everything looks good. I still think that Videotron looked a bit better, then maybe im paranoying...

Yes, the tech indeed connected the Receiver to the 'powered connector' using the RD59 cable. I replaced it with a RG6 cable that I had here..

I must admit that I am alot happier then today, and I will test again tommorow.

But again, I find that there is more grain in XVU then there was with Videotron....

Anyway, i'll relax, have a good night of sleep and take a second look tommorow :)

Thanks!

Spiky, go into the installation settings, and check the HD output, as mine was set at 480 out of the box, and I thought the picture wasn't as good as it should be...

I believe that all the HD receivers come set up as 480p out of the box. I think they do this because if you don't and hook it up to a non HD TV via composite cables (green/blue/red), you would not be able to view the screen.

They should have as "removable" sticker on the units telling you to change this setting if you are using a HDTV.

Hi,

Also, I have the 9241 and even when it's turned off, there is a noise coming out of the Receiver.. (like a fan or the HD)... With videotron, the receiver would shut down completely and restart only if you have a recording to do.

Is there a way for the receiver not to make any noise ? It's close to my bedroom and it bothers me.

Thanks!
