He didn't condemn all of humanity.. after the apple(inconsequential what kind of food it was) was eaten, God still had mercy on them and all he did really was banish them from Eden.. and they continued to live while being judged.
In the meanwhile they and their offspring kept falling prey to the downfalls of human nature- jealousy, desire, hatred, violence, animosity etc.. the same things we all face(and have the ability to resist) that cause ourselves and each other pain and heartache- so no i don't think we're condemned or branded.
In my opinion, we need sin as identity. If God made us all perfect, then there would be nothing to prove, nothing to gain- we might as well be ants. I believe sin was put into our hearts as tests of our character. And the trial itself as justification of our existence and meaning.
