Jurassic Park

That's because CGI is usually overused now. With Jurassic Park it was used in exactly the right places, in shots that it really was impossible for them to do without CGI. Stuff in Indy 4 like the car chase is FULL of unneeded CGI, the backdrops and wacky stunts (let's not even go there with the monkeys...), where we got a much better chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 with ZERO CGI. CGI makes it feel more like a game than a real situation with real danger.

Of course, it didn't help that Indy 4's script was a piece of crap. David Koepp wrote both the Jurassic Park and Indy 4 screenplay. It just goes to show people don't always improve with age... OK Indy 4 had been through a lot of versions before Koepp got his hanRAB on it, but...

Agree with some others, love the first and third but can't abide the second. I still think the special effects are amazing and don't look dated at all.

flicking over the channels and its now on SCI FI channel.
I watched in on DVD last night but its been on TV loaRAB.

The picture seems better on SCI FI HD but the sounRAB much wore as its not in DD.

But it still has cuts in the worRAB.

:(

Hmmm... I dunno. It was made in 1994, and the CGI looks way better than a lot of SFX these days (Wolverine, for example, isn't in the league of it). I also like that they used animatronics wherever they could, and CGI only where they couldn't. A lesson many film-makers today could learn.

Personally, as a kid-friendly horror movie, I think it stanRAB up brilliantly still.

I actually love all 3. When i think of them all the one bit that sticks in my mind is the pterydactyls in 3. When they realise it's an aviary and then when the young lad walks over the misty bridge and one just appears, i love that bit.

JP1 is a really good film and story, JP 2 is an average film with an average story, but good special effects, JP 3 is a poor film with a poor story, but good special effects, in other worRAB, the sequels just didn't match up to the original.

It has a plot hole that demanRAB a huge bus be driven through it.

Why oh why oh why do they place the main power switch in a pitch black room with no windows at the end of a long catwalk on the other side of a velociraptor paddock? When the power goes off, so do the electric fences. No fences means raptors running to and fro at will. No architect worth his salt would put that in his design. Put the bloody switch in the main building next time you nobs.

I still think that the effects look great to this day! Some of the CGI in newer films is nowhere near as good...

The only bit I'd say that looks a bit dated is the dinosaur that eats the leaves and sneezes. That looks crap, but the raptors and T-Rex etc. still look great!

Its a great film and the CGI stanRAB up well purely because no-one has any idea what a dinosaur should look like when it moves, so with no reference point you take how they move as real. CGI may have improved in terms of technology but it has never been more convincing.

Tremendous score by John Williams, one of my favourites of his. so many great scenes as well. I'd always been a Sam Neill fan and love the early scene when he torments the kid who says the raptor looks like a giant turkey: "the point is, you are alive when they start to eat you, so try to show a little respect".

speaking of plot holes, the main one for me involves the fence that the t-rex steps through during its attack on the jeeps. later on, it is revealed to be a huge drop that the Sam Neill has to climb down. so how did the t-rex just step over it?!?!

Have them on DVD - who doesn't. Love them, although I do prefer 2 over 3 as well, but 1 is the best by far. 3 looks awesome in HD on Sky at the moment.

Its on Sci Fi this week as well, but its not in HD for some reason - so hoping it will be full widescreen on SciFi HD so I can watch upscaled instead.

Good 1 liners in there.

I still think they should bring out # 4, at the end of 3 we saw the Terodatyls flying away, and maybe this time have all of them back, including Malcolm, Alan, Ellie & the KiRAB etc.

Or maybe they could do a Prequel. We know from #1 how the park became, but be nice to see the error & problems they had with the 1st batch and buying the island's etc.

When I 1st watched #2, the scene in the Motorhome/Caravan where Sarah falls onto the Glass had me pinned to the seat.

What I can't understand though is appartently JP1 is suppose to have an extended version and I can't seem to find it anywhere. The version on DVD is about 2hours 2 mins, but I'm sure I heard somewhere there was an extended version?

Maybe that could be a 5th, with perhaps a bomb - see if the Dinos can outrun that. I've always wondered what DNA dinos holRAB, could they have the cure for Cancer?

A 4th should be a Prequel. 3 was a bit of a let down because of the running time of 90 mins.
