Jurassic Park 4

The realism of the dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park isn't just down to the CG, it's also the great practical effects (the T-Rex head is the greatest thing ever) and Spielberg's amazing directing. Spielberg made sure they didn't go beyond their capabilities. Imagine if in 1993 Jurassic Park they'd tried to do what Peter Jackson did in 2005 King Kong - a huge fight scene between Kong and three T-Rexes. The effects would have looked really BAD then. Spielberg was very subtle with the CG and so it worked really well.

No matter what, CG looks fake. Relying on it too much makes a movie lose a certain edge. I think King Kong JUST gets away with it because there are so many practical effects elements (the model work for Skull Island), and Peter Jackson wanted it to have a studio special effects feel. Also, Kong, like with Gollum, relies a heck of a lot on an Andy Serkis's performance. He's not just a CG creature. That helps a lot.

I love Jurassic Park. It's one of my fave films but what Spielberg did to the Lost World was horrendous. I was so excited after reading the book but he made a completely different movie. the 3rd one was watchable so i don't really see the point in making a 4th. I hope they do a good job though if they do and maybe i can forget the 2nd and 3rd.

Its a suggestion, it was cinema released i remember seeing trailers for it at least 12months before it was released wishing theyd hurry up & release it.

So am I the only one who liked the first 2 but hated JP3?

The action in the first 2 films was really well-done and they both had some great set-pieces, but in JP3 it just seemed like your typical hollywood action film and bored me to death.

It is good news about a 4th film, but i do think they should of stopped after the 2nd movie, but then again it really doesnt matter what we think they should do because they will just end up making a 5th and 6th & 200th, lol.

I am really looking forward to JP4, I was hoping it'd be around by 2007, not 2008.

I must admit that the plots are all the same, some lame reason why we return to the island(s) and then it going wrong but I am still a fan. I'm annoyed though, since it will spoil by new DVD boxset of the original trilogy.

I can't imagine what the plot is though.. Do we return to the islanRAB as there is new investment in it and it works? Do the animals escape from the islanRAB? Do a government start attacking the island and one country tries to save the animals, so they enlist the help of the previous experts?

Or could it be to do with the fat man in the first film? Now thinking about it, I am hoping that they go down this path. Remember how he was trying to steal samples of stuff? What if his colleagues who were in on it go back and get them and end up creating their own real life dinosaurs? But then that would turn into a King Kong/Godzilla event..

I am hoping that it will differentiate from 2 & 3 but I'd still probably watch it nonetheless.

Possible Spoiler

I heard that the 4th one might be about evolved dinosaurs that have almost human like inteligence. There is an actual theory about them based on fossilised remains but I can't remember what they are called. I didn't like the idea when I first heard it but it has certainly grown on me.

Jurassic Park is the only good one in the series. It was so amazing and definately one of my all time favorites. One of Spielbergs classics for sure.

Then came Lost World which very disappointing and seemed to focus more on the dino effects that actual story. It just didn't work, and much the same, Jurassic Park 3 didn't work either. That is mostly due to the overuse of crap cheesy CGI dinosaurs.

So I say no to Jurassic Park 4. I think that the series has just gone downhill with every sequel and they need to quit while they still have as much respect regarding the original.

Yeah, I'm inclined to feel that way too now.

The first film was undoubtedly a great technical achievement, so great that two major directors (Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas) were both inspired to start new sci-fi projects of their own based on how good special effects had become.

But nowadays, when even low-budget TV series and fanfilms have photorealistic computer effects, all that's left of Jurassic Park is a chase scene. A well-directed chase scene, but hardly a film of any depth.

When I saw the sequel Lost World it was very boring indeed, there seemed to be very little excitement and most of the rather messy plot revolved around the special effects.

Films ever since JP have followed the formula "thin script + famous name actors + bluescreen with CGI = huge blockbuster". The absolute worst of these was (much as it pains me to say it) The Phantom Menace.
