Julio Claudian Emperors, AD14-69.?

Firstly I have to discuss the problems of succession during the period of AD14-69.
Secondly I have to to acknowledge the impact that Augustus had on ensuring succession of the Julio Claudian dynasty.

A great book to read is 'The Twelve Caesars' by Suetonius. It starts with Julius Caesar and goes through, well, the next 12. It'll give you some first hand information.

You might also want to have a look at Plutarch's 'The Fall of the Roman Republic'.
