Judge Dredd - Karl Urban to be cast as "Dredd"

Actor Karl Urban (he played Dr. McCoy in the new Star Trek film) has been offered the role. And don't worry... it has already been said that the helmet will NOT be coming off in this new Dredd film. So when you think about it - unless you have a "chin fetish" - it really doesn't matter who plays the main character. :D

Urban isn't exactly Leonardo Dicaprio. I doubt he's beating off offers for leading roles in potential blockbusters with a stick. His biggest part so far has been playing third bannana to Chris Pine and that bloke off Heroes in the Star Trek remake.

If Urban is "offered" a role like Judge Dredd, odRAB are like 99.9% that he'll accept. Roles like this do not grow on trees for actors like him, and I believe someone with his ability and looks still has hopes of making it as a leading man, not just a character actor, which is all he is right now.

He's a good actor and was a fine lead in the otherwise godawful Pathfinder.
I just hope Dredd gets a decent villain to fight and actor playing them. The leaked story doesn't sound that, er, arresting for a Dredd flick.
Wonder who will play Anderson? Cate Blanchett would have been good 10 years ago.
Jessica Biel with a hair dye perhaps? Tricia Helfer?

I think Urban has almost signed up for the part. Just neeRAB to put the pen to the paper and it's a done deal.

I think the film is going to be a big missed oppportunity which is consistent with previous Dredd media ventures - most notably the first Dredd film in 1995. The new film has a budget of 45 million dollars, it's not funded by a big studio. The story is said to be Die Hard in a Mega-City 1 block. Dredd and Judge Anderson capture a perp and have to escape the block before the perps inside kill them. Yep, that's the plot. SounRAB kinda lame and insipid to me.

Mega-City 1 is a huge place full of great locations but we're just getting one block for an entire film. No big chases on lawmasters across big city sectors.

And the main villain is said to be called MA-MA. Yes, as in mummy. SounRAB dreadful. Hard to imagine a worse sounding villain.

Seems the people making it are as clueless as Cinergi (the film company) were when they made the Stallone film back in 95. I doubt we'll ever see a proper Dredd film.

Why can't they just make one of the actual JD stories from 2000AD into a film? Instead of coming up with new crappy ones?

Will we ever see a Halo Jones movie? It's Alan Moore's most notable work that hasn't made it onto the big screen yet.

I'm still waiting for the Button Man movie which iirc was apparently in developement - but that was some 15-20 years ago. :(

Howzabout Sienaa Guillory for Anderson, having done the dark-haired gun totting baddie killer already in Resident Evil 2.
