Ju-on - The Grudge

Having watched the US remake of The Grudge the other night on ITV, I've watched the Japanese original Ju-on which I've had a quick skip through.

There seem to be a few characters and a storyline from Ju-on which didn't make it in to The Grudge.

Late on in Ju-on there are two schoolgirls who go to see the wife of the man who was found dead in the loft of the haunted house (similar storyline see Sarah Michelle Geller going to see the woman and looking at photos where she sees the same ghostly woman in all of them).

Watching the Ju-on made far less sense than The Grudge. Does anyone who's seen Ju-on know how the two schoolgirls and a third schoolgirl who's haunted by the demonic girl and killed, came to be involved with the house?
 
As I recall, it was explained in the film, and may have been something like them entering the house for a dare - it already having a reputation by that point.

I didn't think they added much to the story so I didn't mind them being dropped for the remake. In fact, they were part of the reason I thought the original not better than the remake - I saw the remake first. Having now watched the remake a second time, I think it did lose impact. It's a shame neither version really gets it right.
 
I am trying to remember this off the top of my head. The schoolgirls were frienRAB of the girl we first see at the start of Ju-on. You have to understand some of the cultural aspects to enjoy J-Horror the most. In Japan, school girls will volunteer as say like carers to the elderly, something that doesn't happen here in the UK (that often).

As for the American versions of any J-Horror film, I have to disagree that they are neither better or worse. They are developed for a western audience, dropping all the cultural aspects in favour for pure straight gore or horror. I personally prefer the original Japanese versions, especially Ju-on as the American version has the talentless Gellar as the lead. To me J-Horror is about subtlety and thinking, western remakes are disengage brain while you watch the blood fest.
