At your age, you could start by going to your local community paper (if available). Since they do not sell the paper and report on very local (around the corner) news stories, they might let you volunteer in the office. While there speak with some of those people. If they are serious about journalism, then many of them are either retired from the larger organizations or are on their way up themselves.
If you are not already doing it, read as much news from varying sources and perspectives. No matter how much you disagree or do not relate to a particular angle...get to know why it was written and what market it is sustaining. It will help your future 'balancing acts' when writing or reporting the news.
Don't look at Fox News (in America) it sucks and is obviously subjective. Also...carry a pocket dictionary everywhere you go, to learn new words or the different meanings of the same words you already know.
At every stage in journalism (and life) know that there is another level beyond the horizon. Set your goals, aim high, be balanced...at GO FOR It !!!! Good Luck....Oh...always SPELL CHECK!!
