I might sometime in the near-ish future get a horse. This horse would most likely be young, between the ages of three and five. Would joining up be a good way get to know the horse and to show him that I am the boss? (I would have ridden him and been around him at his previous owners house before I bought him, so he would sort of know me) Would this be an ok first lesson for the horse when he is moved to my barn? like instead of taking him out to ride, join up with him, then ride the next time?
Also, isn't joining-up the opposite of lounging? After joining up once or twice will your horse not understand how to lounge? I don't want to ruin his lounging by joining up.
