I'm a 22 year old single mom. My daughters dad lives 500 miles away and sees her maybe twice a year, if she's lucky. I have always wanted to be a nurse and I have been considering the Army. Obviously, they will pay my education and full - but there are some awesome benefits with having children and being in the military. Not to mention put my 20 years in and by 42 years old here I am retired.

Anyways, my question is - Is the Army right for me? I want to be in the medical field. Start off as a RN and if all is going the way I'd like it to, maybe even try to become a MD. I just don't know if the Army is right for me. Or Maybe the Navy? Being on land or ship isn't a concern so it's been hard for me to choose.

You cannot join any branch of the service as a single parent sole provider at this time. What do you plan on doing with the child when you deploy for a year?

The only component that allows single parents to enlist is the Army National Guard, which is part time, and even then to qualify for a waiver you will need to prove that you have someone who will take and care for the chlld when you deploy.

And it is not as simple as your word. You will need to have court approved documents and legal paperwork for the care plan which will have to be reviewed and approved by a military lawyer.
