I would graduate and then join up, but thats your decision and its personal to you, Im sure there are no restrictions as far as asthma, but I would check in at your local recruiting office just in case, and im sure your allowed to keep an inhaler on base but its another thing im not positive on, Good luck soldier to be. HOOAH.

Here are some basic facts about joining the Australian Army.

They pick the best educated , and the most fit applicants. You may not even get past the medical officer's physical examination of your body, and general health condition.

Just wanting to join is not enough. It is a competition, and you will be competing with hundreds of others, from all over the country. It stands to reason that with asthma , you won't be able to run a few miles, or climb ropes or do 50 push ups, will you ?

As far as being a "commando " .....no body who has just been hired is going anywhere near such an elite unit for at least the first 5 years..

You have to be trained as a young soldier, first, then learn a skilled military trade, and have a few years of being in a unit, before you can apply for consideration for special forces training.

My best advice to you is this... contact a Australian Army recruting office and ASK them all the questions that you can think of . Get the printed recruting materials, and READ them, to learn what their testing and physical standards are.

With the small size of the Australian Army, they probably only take in 500 new people a year, so your chances are low, and with your medical problems, they may never take you.

You don't "grow out of asthma " . Either you have it, or you don't.

i dont know anything about the australian army, but it is never a good idea to drop out of school, most important thing in life is having options and education gives you more options, american military disqualifies anyone with asthma simple because your a casualty if anything happends to your inhailer, and you become a burden to your unit in a firefight is that something you want on your concious?
