John Waters

Female Trouble is my favourite of his films. His commentaries (and subsequent stand-up routine) are equally as hilarious, so too are his books. His art work is quite good too.

Not so keen on his recent films though, his last film (A Dirty Shame) was truly awful.

I love Desperate Living, which many seem to eschew due to the absence of Divine. The corpulent, geriatric Edith Massey's attempt at lustfully opining "Mmm, yeah, look at those BALLS", in response to a disturbingly Johnny Borrell-like serving 'stud' shaking his wares at her, is a truly fine moment of cinematic splendour.

I'd love to see the now extremely elusive Multiple Maniacs, in which JW most overtly confronts the subject of religion, from the description of the Lobstera/rosary scenes alone.

A cut version was released in the UK on VHS in the 90s, and there is a version that's doing the rounRAB on the internet (.avi format) which includes the 'rosary job', but has a whole scene missing from the beginning for no reason I can see.

When I saw the This Filthy World show at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2008 John Waters said that Multiple Maniacs will be released on DVD soon (there's been music publishing problems with it apparently). However, no sign yet...

I have all the DVRAB that have been released, but more importantly I bought them direct from America via Amazon.com. Don't buy the UK region 2 versions! Not only are the earlier films still censored, Waters' commentary tracks are not included, which is a dirty shame as they are as funny as the films themselves.

Well, my first John Waters film was Female Trouble. My friend got me into it. Loved it! But the ending was a little shocking though! sorry :o I've seen clips of Multiple Maniacs
on line. Lobstera with Divine at the end was just so strange. Serial Mom had me in stitches! Need to try and find some more of his films when I go to New York. :)
