John Carpenter

Loved The Fog ! ...as is usual they have remade it but the origional is a classic chiller !.as well as Halloween and Although i love the origional Thing film ...the 1982 remake is so good !

Is it true they are remaking the Thing? Im interested in how it will be done with todays CGI, but the original was absolutely brilliant & still holRAB up today. I couldnt believe how poorly received it was when it first came out.

Its all E.T's fault!

i love in the mouth of madness, one of the most hp lovercraftian films i've seen. also really like prince of darkness. i don't think he's maRABe a good fim for over 10 years though

the fog (VERY atmospheric i think)
halloween
the thing

all absolute classics

his music is incredible too

The new version of the Thing is supposed to be a prequel to the John Carpenter movie showing what happened at the Norwegian base.

I'd really like to see JC get back on form and have a bit hit

70's and early-mid 80's Carpenter (specifically with Dean Cundey as his cinematographer/DOP) is miles away in quality to anything he's done since. The stuff he's put out with Gary B. Kibbe as DOP is not in the same league.

However, there has been a staggering drop off in Carpenter's story-telling abilities since 98's Vampires, with Ghosts of Mars being one of the most disappointing movies I have ever seen.

Masters of Horror episode Cigarette Burns was a partial return to form, showing the Carpenter might still have what it takes to make a comeback - let's hope new feature The Ward is better than his recent career decline indicates.

Even if he doesn't get back on track, don't forget we'll always have the JC classics. I can't think of any other director in recent history with so many bonefide classics in his CV.

Halloween is my fave film of all time, BTW.

He has but while Vampires, In the Mouth of Madness and his Cigarette Burns Masters of Horror episode had their moments, he hasn't done anything wholly decent in more than two decades so scepticism about new output is justified.

Thats tragic, you should pin them down and toothpick their eyes open. :)

I'm also a fan of Dark Star, bloody hillarious. Cheap as chips, but the ingenuity and comedy make up for it.

Love most of Carpenters stuff. Even Escape from LA. That surfing scene is brilliant. :D

He did indeed. At his creative peak he had a fantastic run of films in the early 80s - The Fog/Escape From NY/The Thing/Christine/Starman/Big Trouble In Little China. That's a superb run of films in anyone's book.

Because no-one's praised it yet, I really enjoyed Vampires. Not up there with the best of his 80's movies but still a great modern twist on vampire movies. Great cast too.

but thats why his films are so good. Normally the bigger the budget the worse the film, partially when it comes to horror and sicence fic, Im glad he has always been seen that way, its forced him to make some cult status films over the years because of it

Low budget and horror B movies are the best movies ever made, who wants to see a multi million pound CGI fest?

LOve that film too. Its such a great idea fro a film but the ending let it down for me but I can live with that. Surprised it has not been remade yet.

How did the ending let it down for you. Not having a go, genuinely curious. As I love it.

Kind of, the curtain goes up, and people see the truth.....and then what happens next, is left to you......Though I'm sure a sequel would have to invovle war of some kind.
