One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is 'to be prepared'.

Actually.... yes and no

He's Vice President of the Senate, meaning he's the "nominal head" AKA he runs it. And he votes in the Senate ONLY to break tied votes. And he presides over joint sessions of the Senate and House.


But usually there's a President pro tempore who is assigned instead. So this leaves him with plenty of time to work on his swing. Which, is a job, right?
