if in order to awaken your poetic conscious you need drugs than its better that you never decided to write in the first place. As a poet and lyricist myself, I am not a fan of his musical work or "poetry" which he still produced in a drug state.

I do like the song "Who Sre You".

Um well I've never read his poetry but I hear its mostly about his penis.

In other news, David Crosby had this to say about Jim Morrison:

"If there were flower children, than jim morrison was a mushroom child, keep him in the dark and feed him shiit"

sometimes you are the MOST creative on drugs....and hey that's what the 70's were all about...lighten up man...your harshening my buzzz......

since he died, everyone calls him a legend and a poet and stuff, but when he was alive, not many people thought that way, most people hated the man. i have a shirt with a picture of jim on it and above it, it says "an american poet" which i think is ridiculous because he was just on acid. stuff like 'the end' and 'crawlin king snake' are all just results of drugs, theres no thought put behind those songs. dont get me wrong tho, i think he's kickass, i just think callin him a poet is a bit much.

I never said he was

You said (And I already quoted this once so you knew what I was talking about)...

See I never mentioned poetry anywhere , I was talking about his songs that you dismissed as drug addled rarablings with no thought.I simply pointed out that if you can say that about the Doors I can make the same arguement against Beatles songs.

Clear?

My opinion of Jim Morrison is that he was in fact a poet, maybe you've never read his 14 books of poetry he wrote in paris b4 his death. Yeah some did'nt get that he was a revouluionary he was about opening peoples minRAB. Durgs helped as they often do but to atribute his life's work to drugs is just an insalt to music. Read his poetry and yr opinion will change.

For those talking about JimMorrison, if you think his books of poetry A crap U obviously haven't read them and are therefor uneducated on this topic to basicaly shut the ****up. Jim was an artist, don't think so well **** you. If anyone knows his life story, U would know about his childhood and his encouter w/ the shawman, and the effect that encouter had on his music, poetry and life.

he was just on acid. stuff like 'I Am The Walrus' and 'Yellow Submarine' are all just results of drugs, theres no thought put behind those songs.

See how easy it is

im gonna have to agree with this..

He was very much a poet, more so than an actuall lyricist in my opinion. Sure he did lots of drugs, but the majority of the artsy type poets of that time (and now) were/are on some sort of mood altering substance, and to give credit to the drugs alone is obsurd. Plenty of garbage has been written on acid, hell even ive written some songs on acid. Some decent, others instantly tossed away. It still takes a person with writing abilities to write songs/poems, sober or not.

Well jim wrote more than just songs, he had his book published, the other examples u gave were simply songwritters NOT poets.
