Jelly Belly Flops

I bought a big bag of Jelly Belly Flops for three dollars at Big Lots
today. From the Jelly Belly website:

"Did you ever wonder what happens to the Jelly Belly jelly beans that
are a little less perfect? Or the ones that somehow escaped the Jelly
Belly logo stamper? Well, those are our beloved Belly Flops!
Belly Flops are no less flavorful, or lovable, than regular Jelly
Belly jelly beans; they just come in wild shapes and sizes. You may
find one that?s round, one that?s square, or you may even find a bunch
stuck together. On very rare occasions, a flavor may not match a
color. A red Belly Flop might taste like Blueberry, or a white one
might taste like Chocolate Pudding. Crazy!"

This bag has a good number of stuck together beans. It took me a long
time to discern the flavor of the maroon beans -- Dr. Pepper. I
thought I was having a hard time without the identification chart, but
now I see that the colors and flavors may not match.

They are good for a laugh, just in time for Easter

I buy perfect Jelly Bellys minus the logo for $1.79 a 24 ounce bag of
assorted under the Walmart brand... the official Jelly Belly
flavor/color chart is printed on the back of the bag. I buy real
Gummy Bears under the Walmart label at a similar price too. I also
buy Twizzlers black licorice in the regulation Twizzler bag; $2.18/lb,
lowest price around.

I would be hard pressed to guess the flavor of any of them, color or
no color. Most artificial flavors do not taste anything like their
real flavor counterparts.

The factory tour is enlightening. They tumble their jelly beans in
what reminded me of copper cement mixers.

It's an awesome tour. I recommend that anyone in striking distance of
either factory do it. The Fairfield (CA) factory has galleries around the
whole production area that they take you around. I am sure that the
other one does as well. They even gave out some samples afterwards. The
only downside is that there can be a wait even on weekdays if you
encounter a school field trip group, but it seems to move pretty
efficiently.

The factory store has about everything you can imagine Jelly Belly
related. Belly flops are available some other places as well, but I was
in the neighborhood and swung by the store.

I made an effort to buy Jelly Belly instead of other brands that might be
available because the gluten-free folks at the church said that brand was
"known safe" for them.

Tara,

I remember from the Harry Potter books of "Berty Bott's Every Flavor
Beans," jelly beans of zany flavors. "Bugers" being one. I thought that
would be a fun idea for Halloween but I could see it being a big project
and dropped the idea.

Turns out the Jelly Belly company makes them under the name
"BeanBoozled." There's a 50 flavor gift box.

I'm obsessed with Harry Potter, so I had to try the Every Flavor Beans
just once. Once was enough! The black pepper flavor was actually
good.

Tara,

Tthink about the JellyBelly employees in the food flavor labs and also
the flavor taste testers day after day after day!

That probably must be like going to work on Monday five days a
week!!!!!!

Best,

Oh! I had hoarded some beans just to pick those out--and I did
that just last night as I tackled some more debris here at the old
house. I LOVE them. I suggested that JB make them, but that was
a no-go.

I have never even SEEN black pepper ones. How I have misspent my life! I
did make an utter fool of myself over the buttered popcorn ones when I was
visiting in the States.
Even the opnes I thought wouldn't be good were good.

Unfortunately, they are (or were?) only in packages of Bertie
Bott's Beans--and one was lucky to get even two per package. I
confess that I recently have eaten some coffee JBs, and I am not
even into JBs.
