Jeep engine shuts off while driving?

Ok i have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 6cly engine (150,000 miles). The past couple weeks while driving the engine shuts off randomly then starts back up after 5seconds or more (power remains on such as radio and lights). Then recently is died at a intersection while my gf as driving it. After 20 mins she got it started and pulled into a parking lot. I got there and hopped in the jeep to drive home. The parking lot had a incline and the jeep died in that spot. It was low on fuel so I put gas in the tank, it started up and I was able to drive it home. So from all this I'm guessing its something with the fuel lines. Maybe fuel filter? fuel pump? worse?
 
It could be the fuel pump.
carry a plastic hammer or baseball bat or something, tap on the fuel tank with moderate force, and try to start it. If it starts right up after u bang on it, you know you need a fuel pump.
