Jeep CJ7 will start but not run.?

Hello, my 1980 Jeep CJ7 will start but not run. My battery terminal wire seemed to over heat and thus trying to start car over heated wire leading to starter solenoid. Originally I replaced my starter solenoid and then received the initial start again. When key is in start position it will start but once it slides back to run position it stalls out. All my fuel filters are clean. Carb is working fine and choke is also. Car is getting gas. Battery has full power. All wires seem to be grounded correctly. I've restored this and driven this car for 3 years. If any one has any imput at all please respond. Thank you- Mike P
