Jeep Cherokee XJ - remote keyless entry...?

My friend has a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ and I'm wondering when they first starting issuing remote keyless entries out to the XJ models...does anyone know?

I know you can get it installed somehow on models that don't have them...but anyway...

[example: they started issuing them with the 1995 model]
Hopefully someone knows...thanks.
Oops, I forgot to say that my friend DOES have a remote keyless entry with his 2000 XJ.
 
I remember 1993 XJ's having factory remote keyless entry availible. They used the same system as the Grand Cherokee.
 
It was definitely a feature added in 96-Production end. possibly some late year 95's but thats somthing I have not confirmed, at least not factory anyway!
