PLEASE help me!? The serpentine belt on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee broke last week. I replaced the belt a couple of days ago and started it up, it ran fine. I started to smell a bit of burnt rubber so I realized that the idler pulley was too tight and wasnt spinning freely so I shut it off and loosened the center bolt of the idler pulley. The belt was not damaged since I shut it off immediately after smelling the burnt rubber.
But then I went to start it up again and it would crank but not start. I cranked it a few times and finally got it started by pumping the gas. However if I take my foot off the gas it wont idle it will just die right away.
Ive checked the belt diagram so I know that it is on properly. I just cant figure out why it wont start on its own and idle since it was running fine, then after adjusting a part that doesnt run anything (idler pulley) it wont start.
Anyone know what could be wrong?
Thanks!
