Jeep Cherokee shifting with larger tires?

I have a 96' cherokee with the 4.0 HO and an AW-4. I've been running a 3" lift for a few months now and looking at some 31/10.5/15's swappers. My local mechanic said something about checking to see if my jeep can have bigger tires because it would then have shifting problems. I have never heard of this, but if he is right, would resetting the computer fix any problem associated with the change (shifting wise)?

installing larger tires is like putting a lower gear in your differential which will cause your engine rpm's to drop. because of this your transmission will be downshifting more to keep the rpm's in the optimum range. all the shifting can overheat an auto and cause it to fail. A way to fix this is to replace your R&P in both differentials
