Where's the poll button?
Anyway, I just watched an interview with Jean Rollin. I love his movies and I can honestly say they're life-changing movies. In the true sense (not in the Fight Club or Trainspotting sense). They can change a person's perspective on life in my view.
But then, who can we really compare him with? Without comparisons, it's very difficult to say he was an absolute genius. To me it's obvious he's a very talented film-maker... but maybe any Hollywood director today with castles, gorgeous, often nude girls, lesbian scenes, great music etc. all thrown into the mix could make a comparable film (although Rollin usually worked on a constrained budget). Jess Franco... but then isn't he meant to be very talented as well?
I love the slow build-ups, the music, everything. For me it's like life itself... just more magical and more intense to the extreme. I'm not going to sit here and say if you think he's a hack it's just that you don't appreciate it.... because I don't know myself for sure just how much of a genius he was/is.
The Shiver of the Vampire is his best one for me out of what I've seen. I love the start of it, the two girls... and that whole scene. The plot is both complicated and it comes together perfectly, I love all of the characters and every scene.... I can't say anymore without spoiling it.
