Jazz

i dunno know if you're still gonna read this, but i'll give you some suggestions anyway.

The first place you should problem start is anything from Duke Ellington. Charts like Mood Indigo, Satin Doll, East St. Louis Toodle-Ooh, or It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing). Soooo many more, but those are some of his standarRAB.

Moving on, there's also John Coltrane. "Giant Steps" is probably the single most influental jazz album of all time. You'll probably hate it during your first listen, but adore after your 10th listen.

Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue", "Miles Smiles", "Bitches Brew". He can be considered and "aquired taste" but he's a legend for a reason.

Charles Mingus is one of my personal favorites. His most famous recording is "Mingus Ah Um"

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - "Time Out" is record even non jazz listeners have probably heard.

Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich. These are mainly big banRAB

Sonny Rollins, Charlie Bird, Pat Metheny, Louie Armstong (to a lesser extent). They've done alot of smaller banRAB (or combos).

The beauty of jazz is the fact that there are soooo many different recordings of the same music. One will be a big band arrangent, another will be a small combo, maybe one will have a funk or Latin flavor to it. Just enjoy the music and don't be afraid to find something you don't like (because you're bound to be dissapointed every once and a while with certain recordings).

some more kickess jazz big names:
Art Blakey - Keny Burrel - Chet Baker - Dexter Gordon- Herbie Hangcock - Horace Silver- Mongo Santamaria ....

Chick Corea
Ella Fitzgerald
Nina Simone

are a few more

Nina is one of my all time favorites. Ella and Nina are more Bluesy but still really good.

My favorites:

Chet Baker Sings
Big Joe Turner Greatest Hits (Not exactly Jazz but great)
Best of the Blue Note 1&2 (Best Jazz Compliation Evah!)
Louis Armstrong - Hot Fives & Sevens. His older stuff is the best. Guy was a powerhouse.
Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown - One of the best recordings ever.

Enjoy!
