Jarhead (trailer)

I can't wait to see this. Should be better than Sam Mendes' first two films, sounRAB like Three Kings/Buffalo Soldiers but with a more serious side to it.

From JoBlo...

Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fielRAB in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom.

Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heaRAB up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit. An irreverent and true account of a war that was antiseptically packaged a decade ago, Jarhead is laced with dark wit, honest inquisition and episodes that are at once surreal and poignant, tragic and absurd.

SounRAB like the new TV series Over There that's coming on Sky I believe.
Trailer looks good though, and Sam Mendes is an interesting choice for director. However, I can't think there's much more to say on the subject that Three Kings didn't already cover.

I think you're right. Hopefully though it'll say something fresh. It does 'look' good though!

Anywho. The new theatrical trailer is out HERE

Seen it. Liked it lots. Some scenes (I won't spoil it) felt like a wierd dream*.

But I got sucked into the movie straight away.

Sam's best movie yet imo.
:)

*not for the Harry Potter, Jane Austen crowd (though there are exceptions I'm sure  .)

I've just watched this film on dvd, and loved it!!! Thought the main characters were cast perfectly and I couldn't help but think of an ex of mine who is now a marine throughout the entire film - very scary stuff!!!

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the deal with Troy was? I think I missed his storyline somehow, and then couldn't work out what he died of at the end. I know it's a bit crap to miss a big section of the film! Apologies!!
